Mr. P Added a reply to Arm pump/hand pain solutions thread

Slowing down rebound helps a lot with arm pump. So do Wolf Tooth Fat Paws grips. The key here is the amount of cush. Softer than rubber and no plastic core in the grip means more absorption. I also have issues from a hand injury, and the Fat Paws make it a non-issue.

Mr. P Added a comment about press release Rockshox Releases New Psylo, Domain and Rudy Fork Models

Who is all this word salad directed at? OEMs? They know better. Press? They know better. Consumers? It's so jingoistic, it's a turn-off. I'm stoked the OEM level of forks is improving; great news for lower-priced builds.

I agree with a lot of what you are saying and will add that the shock tune will have a significant effect. A travel gobbling rate can be good with significant damping at speed. Maybe less great for freeride, but good for enduro rock smashing at speed. I have two bikes that are at polar opposite rates and they excel for different riding types. Choose the one that fits your riding. And someone else picks the one for their type riding.

Mr. P Added a reply to Anti squat and anti rise VS shock and fork tune

3/25/2024 8:18am
Suspension in the 2000s used to be highly based around threshold damping as Anti-Squat (AS) was not even a thing back then. The threshold damping did a good job of controlling "bobbing" but was pretty awful for compliance. Many shocks today still use threshold damping in the from of lockouts, and sneakily in preloaded rebound shim stacks (very common today...
When the NZ govt gives crankworx $8mil for the 2022-2027 events series, you'd think a portion of this would be set aside for looking after and attracting riders to the event. https://www.rotorualakescouncil.nz/our-council/news/news?item=id:2ipwi1… Not forgetting the ticket prices https://crankworxrotorua.flicket.co.nz/events/def3bb7e-69aa-488a-a1f6-4…

So, this promotion really says nothing...sort of like a politician. "The most durable DT Swiss spoke in its weight category to date.." What is the "category'? DH, XC, 'enduro'....? What is the targeted application? Are they 2.0, 1.8 or different? I have DT on most of my bikes since forever, but this is a pretty lame press release.

Cheers mate. Yes strength training is one of the primary ways to maintain and improve bone density, as well as impact stress from running or something similar. I believe bone density is an increasing issue these days in sedentary (and cycling) populations especially amongst women and people who are eating less meat/dairy etc. Bottom line is do strength training for bone density. Great tips for older riders, Ben, thanks! These tips are even great for young people too. Gotta put in the work for what you want. I have a question about skeleton strength. Loads of studies on declining bone density later in life, some newer studies saying to stress the bones to maintain density (like muscles). Any tips for maintaining bone/tendon strength? Mountain biking is pretty good at throwing the body on the ground

Mr. P Added a reply to What do you prioritize from an e-bike?

Big ebikes are fun. But lightweight ebikes are very similar to mountain bike fun. If a rider does not actively focus on getting the wheels off the ground, a lightweight ebike will be very similar to a mountain bike to them on the downs.
