I've been building and racing 650b xc bikes for 5 years now. 29'rs suck, as we all know, but 650b stuff get's a little bit better roll over and little bit better cornering over a 26" wheel that definitely helps you have more fun. As soon as I can buy a DH casing 650b tire I'll have one wedged into my Dorado in a heartbeat. Y'alls gonna be OK with 650b stuff. It's fun and fast and doesn't require a freak bike. Nothing to dislike really...

4/21/2016 10:21am It's a full tubular casing. They're different than a standard clincher casing because they are fully round. The tube is sewed into the tire. 
A high TPI cotton sidewall is used on the Dugast mtb tires that I have one of my racers on. Cotton(or silk) sidewalls suck, they're fragile and exposure to wetness helps to destroy the casing...

4/21/2016 10:21am Tubular tires as used in road, cross, track, xc racing. On a track where you don't have to worry about killing sidewalls they'd be so awesome. All of that casing offers a really lively pedaling feeling that makes you want to pedal hard as hell. You can also run super low tire pressure. The increase in grip is most noticeable...

That tire is a Launch but with dual compound sticky rubber and a legit DH casing. Pretty fun to ride! Unicyclists want the fat tires. Yay unicyclists!

Somewhere around here I have a pretty complete copy of one of Nico's training programs (iirc 2001) that I got from Girard when he was working for USAC. Needless to say that's something that is something I certainly used to hold close to my chest when I was coaching!
