Maybe if there were a track that required constant accelerations the added weight might be detrimental, but that doesn't really describe a modern DH track. The same could be said about 29 inch wheels, but the fact that almost everyone has made the move to the bigger wheels suggests more of a premium on maintaining and gaining speed, and a heavy tire while being more difficult to accelerate is also going to hold that momentum once up to pace (much like a 29 inch wheel). I’ve been told that ‘ultimate’ now indicates the top tier of any product line (similar to what has been used for the Guide brakes). It’s my understanding that second and third tier models will also follow a more standardized category name. The past RC, RCT3, Charger 2, etc didn’t always make it obvious where each fell in the product line.

I commented a while ago about this, saw a group of cannondale/GT employees riding at an east coast bike park, most of them on either the new habit or the GT fury but one guy was riding a blacked out prototype DH bike that looked like a super beefed up version of the new habit

it's the kind of commitment to a rider from a team the sport needs. One of the reasons santa cruz is so well respected. When they hire someone, they're in it for the long haul.
