I'm in love. My fork is a low single pivot Kona, this is a DW Link Pivot. Wheel path is no comparison. Progressive damping, progressive spring curve, no lower leg service, bottoming control and so much more. Steering we've never experienced. No more need to over fork the bike.

The clevis is really short on this bike. There are also other coil shocks with larger shafts like DVO and Rock Shox that would probably work. Of all the shocks out there the Cane Creek pictured is probably my last choice as far as the shaft and seal head bushing goes. The Double Barrel does have great damping and a cushy bottom out bumper though.

Here is what Pivot has to say about it, Although the Firebird 29 features a rising rate design that functions with coil-over shocks, the clevis design adds additional leverage to the shock shaft and internal piston bushing that can result in premature wear of the shock or in the case of some shock brands, a total failure of the shock shaft so we do not recommend running a coil-over. For maximum performance and durability, we recommend staying with the Pivot spec’d FOX Float X2 shock (or DPX2 on our race builds). The FOX Float X2 air shock, Rock Shox Super...

Ask anyone with lots of carbon wheel experience and they'll express a preference for stiffness or compliance. It's a surprisingly polarizing topic. What happens when you combine those two worlds into one wheelset, with a stiff rear and compliant front? Agreement across the board during blind testing. This revelation lead to the creation of the new Crankbrothers Synthesis wheels. Recognizing the potential to improve their wheelsets, Crankbrothers invested in two forward-thinking individuals from varying schools of thought. Jason Schiers, one of the co-founders of ENVE, long held the belief that wheels should be stout and stiff. Mello Bouwmeester thought differently...

So, i've spent nearly every moment with this woman since 1993...thought I knew every ounce of detail and story-but even I learned a couple bits! Was nervous to listen haha, but she did great, nice job babe!

Holy shit that was incredible. I will always think of you as a goddess. I just now realize that I most assuredly made you extremely uncomfortable back in 1999, and I apologize!! I had no idea you disliked the attention so much! You were a hero of mine back then and a source of inspiration!!!

PSI is pounds per square inch, if a mtn tire has twice the volume it has twice the square inches which puts twice the pressure on the rim. That's equivalent to 120 psi or more since mtb tires have so much volume these days.

Krispy Added a comment about product review Forekaster (2017)

Interesting to hear that 2.6" wide tires performed well in muddy conditions. That 120 TPI casing is quite supple and rolls well, but doesn't tolerate sharp rocks. Good to hear you didn't have any flats or damage.

AceHouston Liked a product review Tested: Maxxis Forekaster Tire

With each passing year, more and more riders are looking to extend their riding season as long as possible. This usually means that trails are more muddy, loose and wet – leaving a lot of compromises to be made when it comes to picking the right tire for the conditions. Maxxis stepped up to the plate to provide trail riders with a tire that bridges the gap between a mud spike and a tire meant for dry conditions. The Forekaster is a tire that allows riders to ride with confidence when trail conditions start to deteriorate. We tested a new...

TEAMROBOT Liked a comment about Feature We Ride Coil and Air Shocks Back-to-Back

Totally, damping is a bandaid solution for bad spring rates, but if your shock feels dead, damping is still an available bandaid solution. This one of many reasons why I love air suspension- it's so hard to dial in spring rate with coils, and you can't do anything about spring curve progression- it just is what it is. Being able to fine tune spring curve with tokens and being able to fine tune spring rate with little 3 psi bumps is priceless. Besides the fact that it's a PITA and expensive to buy 2-4 springs before you dial in sag...

Great article, Vital rocks. While I agree with what is stated in this article I've had different outcomes when testing coil vs air. First off, what hasn't been mentioned here or in the Rockshox story is how the negative chamber works on an air shock. The negative air makes the shock softer at sag and can make the shock feel less poppy. The coil spring on the other hand is firmer at sag which gives the support so many people feel. I've found this to make the bike feel more poppy and faster. Due to larger negative Evol and Debonair...

There were progressive springs for a while on MTB's. I think the reason we don't see them now is that they fatigue. Springs on bicycles are as short as they can be to save weight and, aside from new Metric shocks, there isn't room for a longer spring. With progressive wound springs a few coils work harder than the rest which causes them to sack out, get softer and break. Foes had 2 stage springs and we at Go-Ride made 2 stage springs for Fox 40's for a while before the dampers were up to snuff. Our springs would sack...

TEAMROBOT Liked a comment about Feature TECH TALK: Air Shocks Versus Coil Shocks, What's Better?

10/14/2017 8:52pm
I don't understand. If the adiabatic process occurs at high shaft speeds, why would that affect a low shaft speed moment like pushing into a jump face? By poppy I assume we're talking about jumping. Similarly, small bump impacts are high shaft speed moments, so by this same process wouldn't an air shock always be rougher on small bumps? Not saying they're wrong, and it sounds like their blind testing indicates riders can always tell a difference between air and coil. Just saying it doesn't make sense. Maybe pushing into a lip is a high shaft speed moment?
