4/10/2026 12:17pm I always thought this Lefty demonstration was intriguing. I think the industry has different standards on fork flex these days, but I wanted to try a Lefty after watching this BITD. Let’s also not forget all the wacky moves Aaron Chase used to do with one…

4/10/2026 12:11pm Say the forks are dry, still showcases just how smooth the Lefty is. Add oil, still smoother. Unless Im missing something, compared to the other offerings of modern USD forks, an old SuperMaxx Lefty still seems like a more logical option. Especially if it had a modernized damper. If we are strictly talking about stiffness, smoothness, and weight. I feel if Cannondale did come out with a modern Lefty they would not have such a negative reaction of "looks weird" like they did in the past. I mean we went through the era of pregnant Ebikes. Now the weirdest thing...

4/10/2026 11:02am I now have some time on my latest trail bike build (I got it after you started this thread), and I'd have to throw the new Propain Hugene into your mix here. 130 rear, 140 fork (I run mine with the Öhlins RXF36 m.3), it's a super fun bike that is a bit more relaxed and eager to take on rowdier trails than the numbers would suggest, while still feeling pretty snappy on the pedals. It sounds like it hits the mark exactly for how you formulated the question that started this thread (stepping down in travel from a Stumpy...

4/10/2026 10:42am Tallboy is a beloved bike but I found it to be not quite what I was looking for. I had mine built up with an overforked Fox 36. The result was a 120mm bike that was barely better on the uphills and definitely worse on the downhills than my 150mm bike. I had a Transition Sentinel and Santa Cruz Tallboy in stable at the time and going back and forth between the two was pointless. The Sentinel was only slightly heavier and substantially better on the downs. Not to say the Tallboy is a bad bike but for my skills...

4/10/2026 10:34am Just to clarify, you're talking about the "Trance X Advanced". That bike is sold as a 29/29, 140/150 bike with a 52.5mm stroke shock. They used to sell an SX version of it, that was MX, 150/160 with a 55mm stroke shock. Probably one of the best giant bikes made in the last decade that they completely screwed up with their naming scheme, lack of marketing and dealer network. Pro-tip, you can also run that bike 150/160 with the full 29 setup.

3/11/2026 9:58pm Great Job, love the attention to detail on the decals. The frame itself is a solid canvas too. How come this was not bike of the day?

1/23/2026 11:54pm Yeah the geometry change is the worst part, 7° fits me the best but I gave up a while ago since 40mm is the highest currently rise you can get. Worse yet, almost everything 60mm+ is 9° or more. I find this strange because taller people will generally want less backsweep. This sorta gets to your point about the relationship between backsweep and width but I would contend the opposite (for aggressive mtb positioning at least). Grip angle increases the wider you spread your hands out, so one should find that as the bar narrows, less backsweep is needed to...

1/10/2026 11:57pm Thats the thing about servicing suspension though, if you stay current you prevent a lot of wear and performance degradation. A fresh lower service feels better for a couple rides, but I don't notice damper service at all since the damper was still working before service.

1/10/2026 11:56pm Follow-up question how do you guys define "hours" of riding? If you go to a lift or shuttle assisted bike park all day, does that count as 8h of riding or just the ~1h of descending? I think most would agree the descending only. But then, if you are doing loops that are mostly road/fireroads up, then a big descent, on a regular bike the ratio is probably 1h climbing for 5 minutes of descending. Ebikes are more like 1h up for 20minutes down, but your suspension is more active on the uphill in virtually all scenarios.
