Finally had a chance to try out some radial tires on a Norco Sight TQ (schwalbe MM ultra soft trail/TC soft gravity). Borrowed it from a buddy that runs the shop in my hometown. I have been running MM/TC, MM/MM, ECF/TC combos for the past couple of years. No idea what the tire pressure was. First thing I noticed was how tall the radial TC knobs were compared to a diagonal version. Climbing traction was pretty wild up a service fire road that was heavily eroded and mostly made up of blast rock, you could feel the tire doing its...

This is how Schwalbe tires die. Maxxis wouldn't fully rip off as often, but would be hanging by a thread. In my PNW experience, old-version MaxxTerrra 3C wore out well before the Schwalbe side knobs left the chat. I personally define worn out as notably worse cornering. So good job, you actually ride your bike hard. People freak out about a Schwalbe side knob tearing, but happily ride Maxxis side knobs fully undercut with no support - it's interesting psychology. Let's see how the new MaxxTerra compound does. From reports I'm guessing I'll personally get same mileage from them as...

The problem with the Trans races is that they exist more as a "vacation" showpiece than a real race. Not saying racing doesn't happen, but they are also designed to be an excuse for people to ride like hooligans in cool places for fun. I worry making them a part of some EWS title would not only limit people's ability to participate, but also change the overall vibe of these events in a negative way. That being said, events like the Squamish enduro are PRIME candidates to be incorporated into an overall series, and could be a prime model for...

Posted this before, posting again... The old EWS points and event qualifier structure was a great example of a transparent, feasible ladder for talented and motivated riders to climb into the elite field. EWS points were earned at sanctioned local, regional and national level events each with their own points tier and value table. I remember on the website from 2018-2020 there were pages and pages of races you could earn points. An EWS license was about 30USD to get an account and start earning. It seemed that race organizers were welcomed with fair terms to have their races sanctioned...

I love nerding out on geometry, but the truth is unless you actually ride the thing you won't really know how it feels. Especially for full sus bikes, where suspension characteristics will affect the dynamic geometry. That said, I'm a big fan of steep seat tube angles and low standover. The former because I've been on a bike with almost...

I always thought this Lefty demonstration was intriguing. I think the industry has different standards on fork flex these days, but I wanted to try a Lefty after watching this BITD. Let’s also not forget all the wacky moves Aaron Chase used to do with one…

Say the forks are dry, still showcases just how smooth the Lefty is. Add oil, still smoother. Unless Im missing something, compared to the other offerings of modern USD forks, an old SuperMaxx Lefty still seems like a more logical option. Especially if it had a modernized damper. If we are strictly talking about stiffness, smoothness, and weight. I feel if Cannondale did come out with a modern Lefty they would not have such a negative reaction of "looks weird" like they did in the past. I mean we went through the era of pregnant Ebikes. Now the weirdest thing...
