justwan naride Added a reply to 2.4 tires for enduro
2/18/2024 8:33pm Maxxis Assegai is one of the most well mannered and forgiving front tyres I've ever tried, including in the conditions you describe, but it's 2.5. Magic Mary equals it when the ground is damp/soft, gets a bit nervous on loose over hard. All of my mates swear by the Michelin Wild Enduro Front in Magi-X. Currently I have a Conti...

2/13/2024 8:25pm The Mach 6 just isn't the bike I wanted. I don't really like the dead feel of most longer travel bikes and wanted a bombproof slalom type build that can also climb techy trails.

Snfoilhat Liked a comment about Feature TESTED - $5,999 2023 Norco Fluid FS Carbon C1
12/21/2023 7:30am It’s really cool to see a bike review so focused on what riding and maintaining the bike was like, and not using the review as a vehicle to build the reviewer’s brand or launder paragraphs from the press release into seemingly original impressions. I didn’t once have to wonder ‘how could the tester know that, how could they have measured that?’ I want to be sympathetic to media workers who may be feeling pressured to write the mtb tech fan fiction that has become Outside’s (among others) core review style content, but the writing is so much better without it...

justwan naride Added a reply to Why Do High-end Integrated MTB Bar/Stem Combos Exist?
12/17/2023 8:46pm I think it was Unno that started the trend with their first line of bikes and the Gemini bar/stem combo. Then Scott came out with XC and AM versions and Trek followed. Didn't know Giant made one too. On a futuristic design bike like the current Unnos I think it looks good, but personally I wouldn't trade function for fashion...

12/17/2023 8:37pm PM see PM do is my short answer and we can probably just blame Scott and call it a day. While not purely aesthetic I do think the primary driver is how good integrated systems look from concept to final product. It’s hard to deny that the path of continued integration results in cohesive product design that has visual appeal to a wide range of potential customers. From a brand prospective this is a pro that really doesn’t impact the core user who ends up changing out all of the touch points immediately based on hard earned personal preference regardless...

12/17/2023 8:36pm Besides pro riders who get high end bikes for free from sponsors, IMO those kind of products (in this case handlebar) are made for people who have a lot of money and always buying latest and gratest just to show to others what they have. I have those kind of guys on my work (banking business) who have shit load of money and basically buying things just for fun and fuel their ego while talking to others about that, what ever that is. That's why so many bikes are reaching this crazy prices, because there is always someone who are...

TEAMROBOT Liked a reply to forum topic what kind of brake pads to use front vs back
11/5/2023 8:21pm Honest question: have you learned to use your front and rear brakes independently? One of the surest ways to have front brake problems is to use it when you shouldn't, and there are a lot of times where you need to brake but it's helpful to go light on the front brake or even stay off it completely. Especially if the trail is slippery (like dust, gravel, wet roots, mud, off camber, etc), it can be helpful to skip the front brake on the most egregious sections. There are times in the PNW when I'll switch from front and rear...

11/5/2023 8:19pm One thing that I haven't heard mentioned here yet, but make sure to clean, sand, and bed-in the rotors when you switch pad material. When you bed-in a new set of brake pads and/or rotors, the brake pads are leaving material in the pores of the brake rotor permanently. This is critical for good braking, but when you switch pad materials without adequately cleaning the pores of the rotor it creates a mismatch between brake pad and rotor.
