Dead Silent, no rattle. Interestingly, ours is sprung much firmer that the counter cycles version in all three frequency set ups we've targeted. It's really cool to see others doing their own data acquisition and analysis of the Countercycle one, I hope ours is put under similar security. The specific frequencies we targeted were derived from a great deal of data collection, Fast Fourier Transfer analysis and GPS comparison. The bike is not fun to ride in this setting. (setup for countershox but removed). Much more feedback to my hands and less planted bike. It felt like it was deflecting all the way down the trail. I did a test recording axle and bar movements with and without countershox. Of course! Nowhere did I say we shouldn't try new things. What I am however saying is people often step over much easier/obvious performance gains to follow the proverbial herd. I'm also suggesting we're whittling away at smaller gains than maybe we were 5-10 years ago. All of these things can be true at the same time, and if history is a guide this is exactly what we should expect (optimizing for smaller and smaller "real" gains).

It is interesting the folks who have criticized what Cam is doing. Then adore what Neko is doing. I think what they are both doing is super cool and I am for it. Each are designing bikes they want to ride and want to offer that to others. Both have more hours on bikes and testing than any of us could dream to have. There is something to that. Someone built a steel frame incorporating the slider idea I to it. I can't recall off the top of my head who the builder is to find the IG link. Igus sells a filament that would work well for this, now sure difficult it is to print on a consumer FDM printer.

Right now, it looks like your main loss of stiffness is coming from the seat stays not being supported by anything other than the shock. The shock is essentially acting as a structural member of your bike, taking on twisting forces in corners. The biggest improvement would likely come from adding a small swing link to connect the seat stays to the front triangle. Your shock will thank you for it 😅. From there, you could increase rear triangle rigidity by adding a seat stay bridge. If you want to take it even further, you could beef up the chain...

In light of the recent hints that the updated TRPs are dropping in the (somewhat) near future, has anyone heard about the rumored updates to the Hayes Dominions? I remember Atherton racing was running some proto calipers a while back. Curious to see what updates they would make, as they are already pretty dialed. Maybe clearance for 2.3mm rotors and better fit/finish/QC? Or something to allow them to better compensate for pad wear without affecting lever feel? Those were really my only complaints about the current version.

This sounds cheezy so bear with me but I just wanted to say thank you for the great conversations here so far. I’ve already learned some new things and it’s got me pumped. If even one person learns something new from this, then this whole article was worth the effort. Great points. To add on, when you are running low spoke tension, you see the spokes lose tension above the contact patch. On a large side impact, this is where wheels can fold because the spokes don’t “catch” the rim when regaining tension as it takes off to the side. If the rim moves enough and has already begun to deform, your rim can fold in half or taco. This has been the first flex stays frame I have built. Previously there have been three linkage driven single pivots and a classic single pivot. The rear end sits at neutral at 40% travel with the shock removed.
