The concept of this type of technology comes from motorsports that are carried out on smooth surfaces, e.g. F1 and Moto GP. In those disciplines, brake dive can cause excessive changes to the center of mass and reduce fore-aft predictability/traction. In smooth surface applications, the incredible speeds the racers carry are only possible because of the predictability of surface conditions and a reduced range of potential shock inputs. You don't see this technology taking off in motocross or off-road vehicle racing, and you won't see it function as intended in MTB because conditions are FAR too variable. Brake-dive is spoken...

I have owned 6 Transitions, and still have my Triple DJ. That said, Transition used to be a good bargain/value brand. Their prices have creeped up significantly in the last few years and are in line with the 'Big' Brands currently. Great bikes, but not really value oriented anymore

I've just started running 22s front and rear, no tyre inserts but they are on enve m730s with the integrated rim strip. Im running softer pressures than i ever have, laughing off square edge hits, plowing and brapping where I'd usually be stressing. All round grip level is insane, reminds me of the old FRO intense tyres. Pretty bloody impressive for tyres that i only bought for the cool looking sidewall.

I am inclined to think these tires do not benefit too much from cuschcore (compliant/rebound/traction benefit), but if you want it for the rim protection aspect, go ahead. I think other ires benefit a lot (and need more) from cushcore, like Wild Enduros for example. I have tried DH34 with cuschcore and it becomes harsh.. may be XC version would be better.. Now, wild enduros in the DH carcass version MICHELIN PLEASE RELEASE THEM, still only for sponsored riders... A word of warning : DH34 is not a high volume tire, Dh22 it's a little bit bigger, Wild Enduros are...

I'm 6'3" with average leg length for my height. The 200mm dropper works perfectly for me on this frame. Its nice to tuck it out of the way for steeps. That along with the low standover of the Meta gives you great lateral maneuverability on the bike.

Agreed. I also wonder how many keyboard warriors actually need a piggyback shock. You either need some really rough or really long dh for it to be necessary. I have to drive nearly an hr to ride any trails like that. I prefer a coil and am much pickier about rear sus setup then fork so I wish more companies would either offer shock upgrades or just give me something cheap to ride when I’m getting my aftermarket shock serviced.

I ran the bike with no volume spacers in the shock. The linkage already has plenty of progression built into it, so you don't need them. Remove your air can and take out the volume spacers. You may want to run one, but I ran zero. That way, you can run the bike at 30% sag and still use all your travel as intended. One thing to note about a coil shock is that the spring does take up more space around the shock eyelets. I don't own this bike any more, but I don't believe a coil will clear the rocker link, that's why the stock shock is turned upside down. I would recommend an air shock only on this rig.

I'm not aware of a Marzocchi shock in the 190mm x 50mm metric sizing, but they do offer a 7.5" x 2.0" imperial option, which is basically the same. If you can get either of those sizes, the shock will fit perfectly. As far as the fork goes, I think 150mm is the most I'd ever run on this frame. If you go too long, your Reach, BB height, and Seat Tube Angle start to suffer. You should be okay at 150mm, maybe just run a bit more sag in the front to keep things in line. Best of luck...

You're not wrong when comparing two identical 29" bikes, but how many 29" wheeled enduro bikes have your ridden with 2.5" tires and a 2x10 drivetrain? I'm just pointing out the fact that those conditions never really existed concurrently. 2 x 10 with a 22 tooth small ring was almost exlusively specced on 27.5" and 26" wheeled bikes, which are effectively "geared" lower by virtue of their wheel size. I'm just trying to state that if anyone has enjoyed the 22/36 ratio on a traditional small-wheeled bike in the past, the 30/52 ratio will result in very similar final gear...

The gear ratio of a 30/52 is indeed lower than the old 22/36. However, our effective wheel diameter is much larger nowadays with larger volume tires and big wheels. If you do real-world calculations, the 30-tooth ratios on a 29" wheel are perfectly in line with (if not slightly higher than) the legacy drivetrains of yore. Maybe you've just become much stronger than you used to be!

Marco is the first Transition-sponsored rider I've seen make a video that's not on purpose-built PNW flow-carpet. It's refreshing to see someone thrashing on rocky, dry, unimproved multi-use trails like many of us in the western US. I hate the idea that a trail isn't "fun" if it's not on perfect soil or built specifically for MTB. Well done and sick riding, sir!
