I usually wear out a pair of riding shoes before the laces. Not a problem. Quick laces rip themselves within a week though

I agree. Laces always get me in trouble - chains, pedals, etc. Give me something that won't get in the way or wrapped up in the bike.

Boas create pressure points and fail all the time. Laces work great and are easily replaceable, but they need at least a basic cover. An ankle gaiter is also needed on all of these shoes, I don't know why all these companies ignore that feature. I could do without the shoe collar compressing all the trail shrapnel into my ankle as I ride. IMO Shimano makes the best overall flat shoe (price, wet/drying performance, comfort, durability), but Spesh has the best rubber now, it's purely next-level.

By predictable I mean that the OTB line from your center of gravity to the front tire contact patch maintains the same slope as you brake, which doesn't force you to make last second position shifts to keep from overweighting the front end. I'm not saying that any of this really makes a bike unreadable. I've had bikes of every suspension design out there and I've managed. I ride over the bars and I like my fork stiff on any bike. A good rider will adapt to one or the other and just go about his business. All I'm saying...

I completely agree with you about controlled fork compression, in fact I've posted about this same point in the past. However, in STEEP terrain, low anti-rise can excessively amplify the effect and cause unpredictable weight shifts. Most people on these types of bikes are forced to run much higher fork spring rates to compensate. I know I've had to do it. All I'm pointing out is that the marketing done around the guise of "active suspension while braking" is exactly that - marketing, around a suspension attribute that adds no real performance value.

Just6979, you perfectly described why the world’s fastest riders ride forks that are basically locked out, but still ride 30-40% rear sag like the rest of us. It’s not just that they like stiff suspension. Pros hate uncontrolled weight shift, but they love a loaded-up front tire that’s gripping when they brake.

I love this call-out. I've always thought that low anti-rise values are the most over-marketed numbers in the bike industry. So-called "active" suspensions under braking forces like ABP, many DW's and some Horst bikes are guilty of this little lie. Anti-rise numbers that are too low just mean your bike will stinkbug when you brake due to mass transfer, then all of the sudden you're the little kid on the seesaw. When you go rolling into the steeps and touch the brakes, say goodbye to front-end control and hello to fork dive.
