@20mmrain, you are 100% correct. Unfortunately, too many people think emotionally and blindly follow groups like this without knowing the facts. Even worse, they refuse to acknowledge facts and view these things with an open mind. The media and schools are indoctrinating, (brainwashing) these kids and that’s just wrong. Anyway Vital, please leave politics out of mountain biking, it doesn’t belong.

It’s really sad to see you getting down voted for stating facts. If you don’t believe what he said do some research and learn to think critically. It’s a tall order these days but it can be done if you take a few steps back and look at things subjectively and quit believing the propaganda that is being shouted.

It is NOT a human rights movement and it is totally politically based! I could get behind a BLM movement if that was indeed what it was really about! Instead it's supporters (not all I grant you) often are hurting the communities and people they are claiming to support. They do this by rioting, destroying stores, stealing and hurting people in these African American neighborhoods. Whats funny is when you look at these protests/riots a good portion of the people there are College age Caucasian kids bused in from the suburbs or professional protestors bused in from other communities and...

It is a movement with a complete political agenda! And fine! It's great you choose to support it. However I use mountain biking as an escape from life. And I disagree that this is the place for it. Just saying leave it All out! All of it!

Maybe I will. You have to remember that topics like these polarize the overall community. And about 50% of the nation disagree with how the movement is being handled. (Possibly more) Keep all of it out... And Vital will be much better off

Great now vital Mtb is shoving the BLM movement down my throat. Can't we leave political movements out of this and just ride? This is getting rediculous!

I’m a bit confused by your response. I insinuated I was going to find a Yeti (the creature).

Funny @yahmon a web link to a site that looks to be run by a 'privileged' upper class women who's main goal appears to be shaming all things 'white'. That said, several native Americans in my friend group and not a single one find the use in this particular case offensive. Up tight white folks? Sure, but I digress....

Thanks. It's getting insane over there. Vital seems for the most part a more level headed groups/site. That said, here I am posting large responses. I stand by my thoughts, but should probably not tarnish Vital's chill vibe. Shred on man!

bman, I've read many of your posts, mostly on PB. I agree %100 with your opinions. I just canceled my account ( over there ) because of the one way street between moderators and the majority of commentors and anti American sentiment. Respect my beliefs, but I don't respect yours was getting old..

You mentioned in your first response that the word "Tribe" at the center of this article hurts others. I would appreciate if you could provide me some sort of evidence that this word has injured someone so that my attempt to understand your viewpoint may be successful. If Yeti decides to change their name to Snowman, I wouldn't have a problem with it. If the abandonment of the word "tribe" were accomplished without publicity, I wouldn't raise issue with it. I find issue with the fact that social pressure is driving these kinds of silly changes across the board. This...

Definition: "a social division in a traditional society consisting of families or communities linked by social, economic, religious, or blood ties, with a common culture and dialect, typically having a recognized leader." Seems pretty legit. Endless European cultures have used it as long as any Native tribes/nations. If we are to ban any and everything that is 'offensive' or anything that is some how six degrees removed from a perceived offense then we might as well end speech period and that means any publications...all of them, speaking with each other (aka talking), writing, songs, etc.. I have several native friends..not...

Maybe he thought the term was fun? Maybe part of the tribe? Point made someone voices an opposite opinion and someone outright says they are wrong and privileged. Social PC wave in action.

Wow....truly sad and caving into PC pressure. Nothing about using 'Tribe' is insulting or demeaning. It's a group of people with common bond, in this case Yeti bike culture. Textbook definition = "a social division in a traditional society consisting of families or communities linked by social, economic, religious, or blood ties, with a common culture and dialect, typically having a recognized leader."

For those that don't want to go google the definition; "a social division in a traditional society consisting of families or communities linked by social, economic, religious, or blood ties, with a common culture and dialect, typically having a recognized leader." Seems a pretty appropriate use of the word "tribe" to me.

Wow. Yes, this will get downvoted but I find freedom to use this language more important than popularity. Counter culture is no longer "counter". Its the culture now. People with values like mine, ones that point to pragmatism, and trying to note how impossible (and dangerous) a task like this (making sure nothing is offensive to anyone ever) no matter the expense, are becoming, oddly, the counter culture. Tribe is not an offensive word. Or rather, if it is, we'd better dig up the root of every single word we currently use and put it before the post modernist committee...

Who exactly was offended? Care to cite any specific sources? Maybe blacks should stop using the N word, I find it very offensive.

I see your point, but 'Tribe' has been in used in Europe for centuries as well as other parts of the world. From all I see it originated in Rome /Mediterranean area. This particular word isn't anyone's to 'own'. Yeti is a private company and is free to change as they see fit, but this isn't appropriation anymore than a restaurant selling Italian dishes , Hispanic dishes, Thai ,etc outside the 'home' country.
