StudBeefpile Liked a forum topic I don't like the direction of modern trail building
11/17/2020 12:50am Our sport has had a massive influx in the last couple of years. More riders, more money, more media attention and as a byproduct more trails. Overall I think this is a good thing. More MTB specific trails are great, especially single direction MTB trails. But there has also been a trend in the last few years to make the most bland, boring repetitive trails when it comes to building something new. Part of this seems to be legit trail building operations getting their hands on power tools. Where once you had to build your trail to work with the...

7/14/2020 9:41pm I'd just like to remind everyone bikes are still cool, yeti is still a great company, and being critical of something doesn't mean we "hate" each other. Sparring intellectually is okay. We used to do this all the time. I'd like to bring it back. Just a friendly reminder despite how fired up I may get. To anyone who I may offend in my critical thoughts, its not my intent, and I'm very willing to change my mind! Much love. (and go ride your bike) -Jeff

7/14/2020 8:05pm I have to apologize for not reading your comment before replying below. And I have to admit you just made some seriously valid points right here. I stand corrected. Thanks for bringing such a concise and consistent explanation. You have given me a lot to think about, but at first you put the spotlight where it should be: I was being naive and jumped on a bandwagon of political correctness. Thanks again. I won't delete/edit my other comments simply because I think they might help someone else who could fall into the same onanistic thinking I was before reading that...

7/14/2020 6:43pm That line of thinking sounds rather dangerous. What is it you are saying I am unable to notice? What "priveleged" group have you determined I am to be categorized under?

7/14/2020 5:45pm I find it both ironic and sad that you just marginalized every commenter here and on pinkbike that has a different opinion than you while claiming to stand up for “vindication” of a “marginated” group.

7/14/2020 6:48pm This is in response to Yahmon’s link to myself and another user. I’m not sure why I’m being told the website is unable to take my response as a reply. I’m not sure how seriously you expect me to take a website titled “how not to travel like a basic bitch.” I am still open to hearing evidence supporting your claim. I'm not closed-minded. If you’d entertain me for a moment to try to make your same argument about not offending people on a different point: the slang use of the word “basic” could be interpreted as offensive to people...

7/14/2020 1:49pm For those that don't want to go google the definition; "a social division in a traditional society consisting of families or communities linked by social, economic, religious, or blood ties, with a common culture and dialect, typically having a recognized leader." Seems a pretty appropriate use of the word "tribe" to me.

7/14/2020 1:48pm Wow. Yes, this will get downvoted but I find freedom to use this language more important than popularity. Counter culture is no longer "counter". Its the culture now. People with values like mine, ones that point to pragmatism, and trying to note how impossible (and dangerous) a task like this (making sure nothing is offensive to anyone ever) no matter the expense, are becoming, oddly, the counter culture. Tribe is not an offensive word. Or rather, if it is, we'd better dig up the root of every single word we currently use and put it before the post modernist committee...

7/14/2020 1:47pm You mentioned in your first response that the word "Tribe" at the center of this article hurts others. I would appreciate if you could provide me some sort of evidence that this word has injured someone so that my attempt to understand your viewpoint may be successful. If Yeti decides to change their name to Snowman, I wouldn't have a problem with it. If the abandonment of the word "tribe" were accomplished without publicity, I wouldn't raise issue with it. I find issue with the fact that social pressure is driving these kinds of silly changes across the board. This...

7/14/2020 1:36pm Maybe he thought the term was fun? Maybe part of the tribe? Point made someone voices an opposite opinion and someone outright says they are wrong and privileged. Social PC wave in action.

7/14/2020 1:35pm Wow....truly sad and caving into PC pressure. Nothing about using 'Tribe' is insulting or demeaning. It's a group of people with common bond, in this case Yeti bike culture. Textbook definition = "a social division in a traditional society consisting of families or communities linked by social, economic, religious, or blood ties, with a common culture and dialect, typically having a recognized leader."
