Hey Lawn Dart, Here are some answers to your questions: 1. It sounds like you might be describing a pedal kickback event due to heavy suspension compression into a G-out. That is exactly what the Sidekick addresses. 2. We don't have plans for straight pull MTB hubs currently. All else being equal - same rim, same spokes/nipples ect, there is...
Crank mounted solutions deal with pedal kickback events further downstream than Sidekick does. They essentially mask it from the rider rather than preventing it at the source like Sidekick. Because the pawls retract, there is notably less hub drag. The combination of the low drag and lack of drivetrain inputs on your pedals/suspension create a very calm ride feel and a notable gain in rolling speed over rough terrain. We believe there are benefits over crank mounted solutions.

I would say that the Sidekick Hub is revolutionary. Especially when it comes to DH bikes. I used to race a 2005 Giant DH Team. And that bike's brake jack over chopped terrain was scary to the point where you'd feel like your pedals were trying to eject you off the bike. I understand that we've come a long way in frame design and suspension kinematics. But this hub design is definitely a step in the right direction. Now maybe frame designers don't need to add a high pivot with an idler pulley into their frame designs. Or the need...

Thanks for the detailed answer! Also worth mentioning that 26 degrees of float at the freehub sounds like a ton, but it translates to something like 11.5 degrees of float at the crank if you're in a 34:15 gear combo (34:15 is 2.26:1, pretty standard for the middle of a DH run). 11.5 degrees at the crank is pretty darn similar to the max degrees of float on a new Ochain, and that 12 degree Ochain setting bothered me not at all when I was riding bike park laps, shuttling, or doing winch and plummet riding.

The Sidekick uses a 45T ratchet ring that translates to an 8 degree "traditional" engagement. The degrees on the pusher are reflective of just the pusher movement itself. So, if we are talking the total possible degrees: the 12 degree Pusher setting would be 12-20 degrees, the 15 degree Pusher setting would be 15-23 degrees and the 18 degree pusher...
We're excited to hear what the Robot overlords think. Back to back testing with wheel swaps is certainly the way to go. To comment on the single pawl on the pusher and concerns with torque/loading: that pawl never actually carries any drivetrain loads, it only acts to engage the 3 traditional pawls on the freehub, so those are actually the...

Chain looks even more composed than o chain. I wonder if it’s the extra 6-9 degrees of “float” or if the overall system. Would be cool if team robot back to backed an o chain at 12 degrees and the sidekick at 12 degrees and if he can even tell a difference.

I have not ridden the HPL's but the Grapplers in the Mopo compound are now my go-to tires F&R. They are super tacky and have great wear life - outlasting my buddies 3C assagai which keep losing side nobs.

Our TRS Trail and LG1 Enduro wheels are 28H and our LG1 DH wheels are 32H. For rim only options we offer 28H or 32H. For hub only options we currently just have 32H available but will also have 28H available in the aftermarket in the next few months.

It got me to reach out to them, a personal msg from the fellas at E13 addressing my questions & a purchase. So yeah I enjoyed the article. Granted Schroeder is piss ant light compared to me so we'll see how my "zero finesse/max psi" technique pairs with their rim. 😁

+1 for E13 making good products that perform. I have had great experiences with E13 customer service.

I'd been looking at e-thirteen wheels for a little while as a good low/mid budget wheel for a current build. There still seems to be a lot of negative opinions floating around, but mainly about wheels that don't exist in their lineup anymore. Ended up going with a set of the TRS Plus trail wheels, so here's to hoping they hold up as well as the LG1 Plus/Race sets reviewed here. If so, I'll be sure to correct whatever negative opinions are still floating around. For $450 to my door with their current sale, I don't think I could have...

Recently dealt with their customer service (tires that had a manufacturing defect) and they were great.

People looking at the e13 wheel sets are the ones that have seriously damaged their house brand wheels that came with their bike. Personally I went with the alloy set after my Roval alloy set that came on my Enduro started giving up the ghost, and in the past year the LG1 Plus set have only needed one quick check of the spokes (1 loose front, 2 rear) and they are still running true and free of dents. They aren’t the cheapest out there, nor the lightest, but they have a nice buzz, stay clean inside and don’t fall apart...

FWIF, I’ve been running the same second hand OE E13 front wheel for 2 years now. Not sure how long the previous owner had it. Haven’t trued it, i don’t even think I’ve replaced the tubeless tape on it. I did do bearings last year, but that’s it. I am running an insert in it, but considering what ours been through I have no complaints at all. Getting it for $50 was the cherry on top.

Nice review - good to get a direct back to back with the same brand which the only way to get close to a fair rim material comparison. Helps keep me happy with my existing aluminium rims 🙂

e13 support super fast to response and address claim, I had 2 issues (non wheels) all were addressed within the week including shipping time, so I would consider their support quite good
