I test rode a tallboy 6 over the weekend (5mi / 600' vert). It is really, really good. I have a ht4 that I love and I love vpp for longer travel bikes. I don't miss it on the new tallboy in the slightest. It goes uphill as well as the previous version with more traction when climbing square ledges...
Just following up on this post/question. I now have 3 rides on this setup, the first one didn't count because in typical sram/maxima mineral oil bleed challenges, I developed some soft levers half way through the ride. At any rate I am really happy with how these brakes turned out. The combo of the maven base master cylinders and the...

How deep into the 7 figures do you think it would take? (asking for a friend). just to clarify so that this doesn't come across as a flex... I am not the one with direct access to capital, at least not enough for a move like this... but I do have college roommates that are into the sport and made...
One thing missing here is the fact that with the proliferation of composite know how, there are more people around able to safely repair a wider range of issues. Rather than pretending we are recycling carbon bikes I’d love to see more frames designed in ways that facilitate repair. Repair is verifiable in a way that recycling is not, it is cost effective for everyone concerned, and it is as close as you’ll get to good for the environment. It probably flows on to other design decisions to ensure repair is viable (like bearing placement, etc etc), but designing bikes...

I agree that it's not that great looking... They do however look less odd in person. The overall design idea does present several advantages however that are notable. Utilizing a standard crank and spindle is an obvious advantage and the drive unit design lends itself to a high pivot suspension design. Less hanging down to bash on things, which based...
I'd be interested to know what lead them down the path to the drive system they ended up with. Was the suspension design and resulting packaging the chicken or the egg. Related to the first question, did they work their way into the idler placement bit by bit with minor refinements or were they targeting a specific location and then...
I'm in the middle of doing some stupid brake tricks. In this case, Maven base lever assemblies (with Maven b1 lever blades) and db8 calipers. This started out with the idea of just using what I had on the shelf to finish a build and is turning into an exercise in finding a middle ground in weight and power between...

I think one of the largest "We're not in Kansas anymore" moments I had when I began working for a component manufacturer after years in bikes shops was when I had the insignificance of aftermarket sales explained to me. Don't get me wrong, every brand worth their salt is going to support aftermarket product bc why leave money on the table, but OE sales are king in the bike industry and ultimately OE sales drives every design decision. SRAM gets to push the convenience of full SRAM spec by limiting cross compatibility. For brands like Canyon, Specialized, etc., who are...

I think DJI is going to be really hard to beat long term. They have such an advantage on application and user interface development that their product is going to seem more refined. Beyond that, the access they have to cutting edge, and less regulated battery production and technology is going to make it much easier for them to push...
It is really hard to get all of the air out of the maxima mineral oil with how thick it is. If you airate the mineral oil when you pull it into the syringe, you're almost guaranteed to have micro bubbles in it that are impossible to deal with. I am really deliberate about letting the syringes sit for 30...

I appreciate that they are trying to provide a bit more clarity on the chainline situation. The previous o'chain product info websites provided almost nothing. I digress, it seems that the chainring you mentioned is a zero offset chainring based on some quick googling. So I take the ochain website, and your article to suggest that the ochain has a 3mm offset to it. So 55mm chainline when run on a dub wide crank, or 53mm chainline when run on a standard dub crank. This is all pretty easy to figure out on the pedal bike models. For ebikes, the...

I feel like I can finally add input to this thread. I have just about every flavor of Maven's in my fleet and I just got the chance to try out the b1. I have a set of expert a1 (on my nomad 6), bronze a1 (on my ebike) and base that I just converted to b1's with a silver...

More deets on new Ochain B1 - https://www.vitalmtb.com/product/guide/chainrings/ochain/r-chainring-sp… TLDR: SRAM has taken over manufacturing and has improved the tolerances and sealing of the system to keep stuff from getting in, increasing service intervals. They’ve also introduced an external travel adjust upgrade kit to convert internally adjustable models. And the new B1 models are only available for SRAM 3/8-bolt cranks and Bosch’s CX5 motor. No more Shimano/Race Face models. I’ve ridden one for almost three months and it has faired way better than any Ochain I’ve had in the past. No creaking, no need to clean it out yet. The elastomers...

I use wolftooth 32t chainrings on my ochain equipped bikes... no grinding and no issues. In my experience, most aluminum chainring wear about the same amount more or less... so it doesn't matter to me which brand as long as the chain retention is acceptable.

I get the sentiment of what you're saying... but I would contend that the avinox motors have throttles... you just operate them by moving your feet. 460w of output with 25w of input, 800w of output with 100w of input and max power being delivered at 160w of rider input, is not pedal assist. It is pedal driven throttle assist.

DH bikes aren't made to have wide appeal to consumers, the current demo is an obvious sign of that. Respectfully, they do not care if the consumer would be miffed at an expensive cassette or don't really care about total cost of the frame +/- 500-1000. Besides, it's not an either or... maintaining UDH compatibility still allows for cheaper, standard...
I selected too stiff, but as with everything in my dumb ole brain, there are caveats. My most recent experience with a bike that was too flexy, was a first generation orbea rise. That bike had a relatively stiff front triangle and an absolute door hinge of a pivot/rocker link and rear triangle. It would flex to the point where...
