5/18/2025 11:15pm From a buyers perspective, 20mm axle sucks, as DH bikes seem to be fading, and the popularity of DH hubs with it. I’m assuming it has some serious upsides for stiffness etc. But most will need a new hub, which is like $100-200 + spokes and labor. Worse if you have multiple bikes because they may no longer be swap able between bikes.

DustOnCrust Added a reply to Enduro shorts, any favorites?
5/13/2025 10:32pm Leatt Trail 1.0 shorts: hands down the best breathing and best fitting shorts I've ever owned and at $60, they cost less than half as much as my previous favs from Fox (Attack Q4). No billowing at the knees and a super-functional 3rd pocket on right thigh (only "cargo" pocket I've ever tried that doesn't bang around when loaded on...

5/2/2025 8:53pm DHaRCO is the team gear sponsor just like Fox is a sponsor of the Frameworks team. I don't believe that any of the riders on either team have personal gear deals. The only team in MTB that had the riders having individual gear deals was the Syndicate prior to Fox sponsoring the whole team a few years back. While Neko may not have been the top dog, he did have a fairly successful career riding for some of the top teams in our sport. His has said his goal with the team was to give his riders the things he...

5/2/2025 8:51pm Call me cynical but my guess is after some superb performances this season and a couple of elite World cups wins Asa will move to Specialized and FrameWorks will receive a huge fee to release him from his contract

5/2/2025 8:51pm Yea, I think people aren't' realizing that "Frameworks" isn't paying Asa. All the other sponsors are kicking in big cash to pay him a real (big) salary when he goes elite. And yes, I wouldn't be surprised if someone comes knocking and buys out his contract after his first year.

DustOnCrust Added a comment about press release OneUp Components Announces NEW V2 Carbon Handlebar
4/9/2025 10:30pm I cut my V1s to 780mm. My OneUp bars offer zero discernible flex / comfort benefit vs the 780mm Santa Cruz carbon bars they replaced. Not here to bash OneUp - have had great experiences w/ their droppers & chainguides - but "failing to live up to the hype" is exactly how I'd describe their V1 bars. I'll only be buying the V2 if my current bars need crash replacement, and even then only if they can beat the competition on price. 33% of zero additional comfort is still zero.

4/9/2025 10:18pm I have the v1 bars trimmed to 760, and I never thought they quite lived up to the hype. Yes, they are slightly more comfortable than bars I have on my other bikes, but I thought I would have noticed a more significant difference. I had no idea until right now that trimming them negated most of the benefit. I wish they had a trade-in program...

4/6/2025 10:34pm Pretty sure this is just the same sponsorship from Shimano as always, they've been a main partner of World Cup racing since forever. I imagine their existing contract with the UCI was up, and now they had to negotiate with the world series directly, so we get the same thing but with a press release full of buzzwords and mid-level management speak. At least, if nothing else the series has commitment from brands mid to long term.

4/6/2025 10:33pm What does it mean to be the drivetrain and electric drive unit components provider for UCI MTB events? Is that like neutral support for athletes? Or does that mean everyone in the E-EWS has to use a Shimano motor and parts? Or does that mean when someone like Josh Carlson does a track preview they're on a Shimano-equiped bike?

4/5/2025 8:31pm Sounds like a pure "product placement" sponsorship: Shimano gets plugged on signs & every time WBD mentions sponsors. And maybe someone in broadcast team like Josh Carlson occasionally rides Shimano parts on camera. Come to think of it, the one place e-bikes make sense near professional, televised competition would be to transport course marshals & other organizational staff around the...

3/12/2025 9:06pm Right. I was saying that if you want a T7 compound for the rear, the new Eliminator might be a good choice, because they've beefed it up compared to the previous generation, giving the knobs a bit more volume, moving it a bit closer to Butcher-levels of rowdiness-ready. :-) In other words, it has a better chance of "keeping up on the descents" now, while still offering good rolling characteristics. And it comes in the T7 compound you want/need.

DustOnCrust Added a comment about feature First Ride: Specialized Butcher and Eliminator 2025
3/12/2025 11:44am Can you finish "T7 Compound..." thought? Looks like T7 is only an option for new Eliminator. I run T7 in rear b/c our abrasive, sharp rocks undercut side knobs in just a few weeks if they are T9 or Maxterra or softer. The old Butcher T7 was a sweet spot tire for the rear that rolled notably better than a rear Assegai or DHR in Dual compound, but could still keep up on descents.
