While I do agree with you, I do agree with IceIceBaby more. Only from the standpoint of comparing this bike to the rest of the market. If people want to buy this new gen frame, then good for them. But it kind of blows my mind that Pivot decided to stay so conservative with its changes, especially in comparison to the rest of the market. It just looks meh.

I actually saw a pair of Mavens in the flesh a week or so ago on the gondy at Thredbo while I was in the line. Went past me too quick to snap them but the bike was a raw alloy DH frame that I’ve never seen before, with full compliment sram/rs (new boxxer, Vivid, xo dh etc). The text looked slightly different to the exposed pic from earlier but was very clearly laser etched maven. And it was just the perimeter of each letter rather than a fill which stood out to me. Looked quite finished and production ready.

You're correct. 157 Superboost is dying. Mondraker and Pivot, arguably the only big mainstream brands in favor of SuperBoost, have both switched back to using Boost 148 on their latest models. All the while Boost 148 is even showing up on some DH bikes. For the forseeable future, we're stuck with Boost 148. Not because it's particularly good or makes sense, but because it's the de-facto standard. My guess is that its just a Titan with dorado's and his idler chainring. To run his short stems you need to size up and so it would be an xl frame with a 490mm seat tube. This forces Rulezman to run a 125mm dropper post, which created the funniest excuse of "125mm dropper to save energy from squatting a smaller distance".

I was told (friend of a friend kinda deal, so far from first hand experience) that anything not aerospace in regards to aluminium to carbon bonding will likely corrode in ~5 years. The guy, apparently an aerospace engineer, said he wouldn't ride a carbon bike or wheels, or a car or a racecar with a carbon tub with aluminium inserts if over 5 years old. You also have different temperature expansion coefficient problem with the two materials acting on the bonded joint. On the other hand aluminium cars are bonded, not welded, partly because of the reasons that were outlined...

I'd say sand casting will have a big issue with porosity. You'd need high pressure die casting to achieve compactness. Also, I'd say mechanical properties of casting ready aluminium alloys might be a bit on the lower side compared to 6000 and 7000 'aircraft grade' alloys, I wouldn't be surprised if this was the primary factor. That and the cost of investment. Casting is very good for chunky parts. I'd say it'd be good for rocker links for example. Seatstays and chainstays I'm not so sure... Fork lowers are still tubes which gives them a lot of strength. Also, yeah...

I work in manufacturing with tons of CNC and I can certainly see the lugged approach becoming much more common. If you are getting the lugs cast in aluminum instead of the 3D printing they can be very cheap after the initial outlay in molds (still tons cheaper than carbon molds). A little bit of post mold machining which is very easy and efficient to have setup. Carbon tubes are very cheap as well. Now comparing it to welding or carbon here is one thing but when you talk about these processes being perfected overseas the cost comparison becomes less...

Look at the drive side chainstay above the tyre. It's L shaped. It's optimised for production process and stiffness and strength. It's not a tube, but it's not necessarily bad.
