Riding along and all of a sudden my fork feels like it completely locked up. Gave it one push down on the bars and heard a nasty scraping sound. Thought for a minute that maybe I had come crazy failure of the air shaft or something else inside. Nope! Just the perfectly sized and shaped rock to get wedged between my stanchion and arch. Took some trail-side fiddling but it eventually popped out. I've never seen or even heard of this happening before haha.

I agree. That sentence is bizarre. I'm weirded out by the implication that choosing a longer or shorter chainstay length would be a compromise, but somehow choosing a 438mm chainstay length isn't a compromise? Every geometry decision you make on a bike represents a compromise. They're all trade-offs. Either that, or Canyon and friends have stumbled upon the Platonic ideal of the form "chainstay length." We're all in the cave over here, but at Canyon they've unshackled and transcended bodily existence to discovered the one true form of bike geometry. So meta of them.

DESCRIBE THE THING!!! My brother in christ you are posting spy shots of some byb telemetry device that nobody knows about. Stop being cryptic, nobody here likes that. Tell us what you know about it if you're allowed.

I try to avoid hype and buy products on their merits. Brands are corporations, not your friend. Although I do need to branch out on tyres... Edit: I articulated my thoughts poorly but I think in general, reciprocity is largely dead these days. And I don't buy enough of anything to be important enough for a brand to be "loyal" to me in return.

Not sure I'd class Merino wool as a tech rumour, having been around since the 13th century... But I'll agree it's the best material for pretty well any sports-related activity. I'm partial to Mons Royal stuff, especially the merino chamois shorts. Costco always has some version of a Merino shirt for sale, probably the best deal you can get.

Is clothing technology permitted in this tech thread? Or does it have to be rumor related as well? Because I'm a stinky guy, but man this morning I just got back from a 3000+ vert ride in the sun and I sweated like Fauci at a Senate hearing but when I got home my wife commented how my merino wool jersey (51%, $25 on sale at EVO) had 0 BO smell. This isn't the first time this miracle has manifested. Also, I feel it is excellent in the cold (sub 55 degrees) and heat as well.

I’ve battled hand numbness and pain, particularly in my right thumb, for years. I tried various bar bends, widths, and materials with limited results. I tried different grips, and fit adjustments with little help. The biggest things that did help were core strength and carpal tunnel stretches. The pain and numbness continued and got worse, even while driving. Today I’m exactly 2 weeks post carpal tunnel release surgery. I haven’t been on the bike yet since I had stitches removed yesterday and have been released for activity. Just driving I’m not feeling any issues other than the incision is sore...

I want everything externally routed. This isn’t a standard I guess, but no more rim tape. Something like the Enve strip standard on all wheels.

TEAMROBOT Liked a reply to forum topic Why Do High-end Integrated MTB Bar/Stem Combos Exist?

12/19/2023 1:26pm
This is such a good question, and I would add to it: Does anyone actually think this looks better? Because the integrated stem LOOKS SO WEIRD to my eyes. It looks like the monster from The Goonies. [Edit: A friend pointed out to me that "The Goonies didn’t have a monster. It had Sloth, who was a normal person who was severely beaten when he was a child. It’s really sad actually." Agreed. You could say the real monster in the Goonies is inside of the people, and everyone has the choice to be brave or become a monster. I...

Long time lurker but first time poster. Didn’t want to comment but with that photo released the cat is probably out of the bag. That is the Atherton AL170? aluminium prototype at Dyfi. Had a good look back in the summer, was just on an uplift and got talking to one of their trail builders. He was very open about it, answering all my questions! They’ve all been testing it all summer, basically trying to destroy it by putting years worth of riding into months. It was absolutely beat up when I saw it, but he said it’s indestructible. Aluminium...
