jeff.brines Liked a comment about Feature Shimano's Latest XTR Group Delivers Class-Leading Performance

@noahcolorado Though I did mention cost and weight I also specified my lap times likely wouldn't improve nor would my overall ability to ride my bike better. Moreover, I never said XTR sucked and nobody should buy it, I was however trying to articulate that I'm not sure its fair to give this a 5 star review when it doesn't do anything better, brings no new technology forward, and costs substantially more than value offerings from SRAM which are going to offer a rider the same range at about a weight penalty of that one air canister or scoop of...

I know I'm going to get some flak for writing this, but I don't see how this can be a 5 star product. Reviewing anything is obviously a relative thing. You have to compare the product to other products, either directly (compared to _____) or indirectly (by not mentioning a competitor) In the case of XTR, the price/performance ratio really has me scratching my head. Just some quick math: the shifter, derailleur and cassette costs $835 and weigh 724 grams. Though not a direct comparison in terms of where it sits on the showroom shelf, SRAM's GX group comes in...

I actually tend to agree with most of Jeff's comments below. I'd add the need to convert to MicroSpline as a key ding against the group, especially since Shimano is limiting access to a majority of the industry. Not only do I need to purchase all new wheels - or at least hubs - my choice in manufacturers is pretty limited.

I've never really liked the feel/ergonomics of Shimano's mtn shifters, so the drivetrain doesn't exactly appeal to me... but those brakes look seriously sex. Would try.

I think that was the point he was trying to make, take the best design of each, designed for the DH bike, then spread it across your lineup.

So I see this design as a Spec copy of the ?Gen V10 design that's trickled down to the rest of the Santa Cruz line. Take a tried and true suspension patent that's now generally available and upgrade it by lowering the center of gravity. Good on Ya. I really wonder how patent law works. Are there physicists and engineers at the patent office?

Can get 27.5 and 29 dhf in maxx grip and dd, just not exo+ yet. Not that I’m personally sold on exo+ at this point. Maybe for the front but now I’ve got maxx terra up front and maxx grip in the back....

MaxxTerra isn't too bad out back.. get a bit more life out of them, if it's rocky.. Wouldn't put it on the front tho.

Yeah, yeah, but have you ever known me to be patient ? And yes, many hate MaxxTerra but the rolling resistance differential is massive. I love DH tires but can't justify the lack of speed for 99% of my riding.

Our WT tires are designed around 30-35mm rim widths. That means they’re ideally suited to those widths, not that they won’t work on narrower rims. We developed WT tires because of the trend toward wider rims in the market. As a world class athlete, Troy’s needs/demands on his equipment is much different than yours or ours.
