A disappointing but possible reality.

I’d hope to see Neko as a Max Commencal type in the future.

Given efforts made in his local region to improve the DH scene I have to believe he has a larger goal in mind than flipping the FW brand.

That’s not a slight against Martin.  But that’s like giving Aaron gwin credit for asa’s overall win.  Sure he was a part of it with some quality advice in key scenarios. But the credit goes to Asa.  Aaron said himself he was just happy to be a part of it.

Neko has put in incredible work while building up his employees to meet their potential.  He put his money where his mouth is at every step of the way and has shown an ability to have a real pulse for what people want to pay for.  Whether it’s his bikes, his bike parks, or cheering for his race team.  As well as a proven ability to take a 15 year old kid and turn him into a champion (while seemingly having the time of his life).  There have been countless people with far more impact on each of these things than Martin.  Not that Martin doesn’t deserve a small amount of credit and isn’t just happy to have been a part of it while getting paid as an agent.

I actually meant Martins role as a mentor to Neko through his racing career and immediately afterwards when he started Frameworks. I wasn't referring to this seasons win.

With all the Asa talk, just props to Neko to making it happen. I know most people, myself included, were stoked when he showed up on his own frame out of the blue, especially after all the weird bikes he built with intense and Scott in the last fews years, but it was never a sure thing.

Dude built a world cup winning bike in 5 race seasons starting with him showing up solo from scratch, hope and experience and had more wins than any other bike this season save for Vali's Supreme this season. Absolutely wild.

Hoping Asa and Anna stay with them and keep developing that bike, because it's my absolute favorite on the race scene and it's nice to see it on the top step.

Not to mention actually selling what they are racing.

They're not actually, it's a nit-pick but Asa has been on the lugged bonded frame for a while whereas they sold the FTW welded version.

Actually, the latest round of retail bikes were the Genio versions from Taiwan which is also what the whole team started out racing with this year.

During one of the breaks, Asa rode one of Neko’s bonded prototypes and liked it so much he raced it for the last few WCs.

Ah yes, you're correct about the Genio frames. My bad

And for each of those far-flung elites, you can recall seeing them spending a big chunk of the off-season elsewhere, where there's more riding.  All the old Syndicate posts with Steve / Greg / Josh in Spain in the off-season, etc. etc.  Or nowadays, how so many teams / riders are spending time in NZ when the rest of the world is snowing and rainy.  It's the terrain, but also not being isolated from other riders.  I don't think I'm saying something terribly controversial:  the US is so spread-out, and it that has hindered us in developing a native DH culture, like Andorra, for instance.

Greg honed his skills on a Moto in SA. Then his formative early MTB years where spent riding for the Animal Orange team in GB. So as someone else eluded to here, one of the biggest keys to MTB success is the community and race scene not big mountains.

On all things rumors..I had heard that the Atherton's were looking for an elite women but with their HQ burning down I'm wondering how that will affect the team?

Hey!
So, what do you think DragonSpeed should do / will do after their first year in DH? 🐲

Almost set for Elite Men. Trying to find the right Woman Elite.

Don't you already have a junior woman stepping up into elite next year?

Considering the injuries Zoe Fayolle had at the beginning of the year, she's still on the road to recovery. You're not dropping her already, surely?

Correct. But we would like another woman with her, Elite or Junior.
Not easy to make the right choice.

Will Antoine Rogge be back next year?

yes :-)

Maybe 3 or 4 years ago Wyn Masters gave Antoine his Privateer of the Week award and he interviewed Antoine. Antoine told how someone had stolen his bike and Loïc Bruni had given him one of his bikes so Antoine could race that week. I became a fan of Antoine's at that moment, and I recognized what a great guy Loïc was.

It's little stuff like this that make me a fan of this sport.

there was one race where the Zwar brothers (I think both Privateers at the time) had their bikes not show up on the flight.

they were both sharing Cathro's V10 for practise.

Hopefully the recent fire at the Atherton's facility, negatively effects the race team, nor their brand going forward (except possible delivery delays).

We are underrating Martin here. Martin pretty much MADE the World Cup into what we all love. So I think he is a LITTLE bit more important than Max. ;-) Also: who propelled Orange and Trek into must-have bikes of pro's? Who got Honda involved? Who made YT run a successful race program?

I might have written this somewhere before, but in 2004, at the Worlds in Les Gets, I noticed two riders in improbable gear: one on a silver Orange, full Oakley kit and Lazer helmet, one on a black M1, full Oakley kit and Bell helmet. The first was Matti Lehikoinen, the second was Justin Havukainen. Both were without sponsor deals that year and were supported personally by Martin, as far as I know.
