Got an email for this event today. Looks like they are introducing a new bike soon from the description of this event and the carefully placed captions over the bikes.
It’s not a surprise that all the R & D now goes into e-bikes.
New Kinevo? Gonna be a thick girl if the regular Levo clocks in 52+ lbs in the SWorks models.
Full power light weight
gotta be a new kenevo
They need to pull something out the bag & quickly to recover from the disastrous gen4 levo. Would love a gen3 kenevo, something like Bruni's bike. But if its based on the gen4 levo battery with corresponding downtube & revolting flap, then its a firm no from me.
I don’t know about disastrous, but they definitely missed a trick or two.
Looks like a Levo. They didn't block out the bike in campfire photo. Half the bike is showing in the left side of the photo.
Could be. Downtube does look more slender though. The levo4 downtube is massive.
FWIW, Upway bikes has tons (44) of 24 and 25MY Levos in various specs and sizes. I was thinking demo fleet at first, but they all have less than 20 miles on them, so they must be overstock.
Can you explain what went wrong with the Levo Gen4?
Ive seen 2 on the trails since launch, when pretty much every second ebike is a specialized gen2 or 3 levo, kenevo or sl of some model.
Fat downtube, horrible battery flap, bland looks, 2 tier power output. Did i mention the fat downtube?
Spesh were top of the game for years since the gen2 with a relatively slim high capacity battery and nice integration when everyone else was bolting a massive controller to the handlebars with dumb key lock batteries.
They have been well and truly overtaken and lost myself plus plenty of others as customers.
As a previous fan of the brand and owned 3 of their ebike models, it gives me no joy to say this.
😆 Meanwhile, Specialized Korea can't even import them because of battery regulations. They probably had 50% of the E-bike market, and that's gone straight down the pooper, especially since DJI motor'd bikes finally started coming in.
Also the gen3 could be built up as a proper enduro bike or very lightweight at the time. Most of us were wondering just how much lighter the next gen would be, answer over 1kg heavier.
Also the only thing stopping many of us from getting a gen3 was the Brose reliability, so staying with Brose is huge turn off until we see if the motors can do 2+ years.
If you're buying an ebike it should have a minimum of an enduro build. These are not for the bike path. The motor on the levo 4 seems to be pretty good for me as far as ridability. I haven't rode any DJI motors yet but I feel like the power delivery and user interface is really good. It feels more natural to me then the Shimano or Bosch products I've ridden. Whatever that is worth. I haven't had much issue with the door yet and I live in a fairly cold climate so I pull my battery after every ride in the winter so for me that is overall a win. I like the specs on the DJI as far as weight goes but I don't need more max power, I want a lower system weight and range. It seems like the DJI system is lacking range overall even if its tuned it seems to still use for battery then others. Time will tell I guess now that there seems to be a lot of DJI products hitting the market. Currently bosch might win for power to range game.
I have an Orbea Wild with the Bosch Gen 5 motor. Pretty impressed with it even with “only” a 600wh battery. I can get 5200’ of climbing with almost all of that climbing in tour+ at the default settings. Lots of room for tunability in the app too. I find the + modes to deliver power in a more natural way than the non + modes. For DH I run it in the highest power mode which is emtb+ goosed up to 100nm and the sliders all maxed out.
The amount of power in emtb+ is ridiculous. The E bike industry needs to be focusing on max range and weight at this point. The power race is going to backfire. I know there is the crowd that just wants to let the pedals drop to get them to the top but riders that still ride both or came from regular bikes want to still pedal crush out big rides. No need for that much power and from what I hear the avinox v2 is going to be even more powerful. Something like 130nm of torque and well over 1000w of peak power.
