Nina Hoffmann said on IG that she was going to be at Killington today to watch the races. She doesn't say why she isn't racing this year. She's won the last 3 years. (Aletha came in second last year about 0.3 seconds behind Nina.)

Aletha Ostgaard wins US Open by 2.79 seconds over Camille Balanche to take the $15,000 first place cash.

Aletha also wins the Hole Shot Award of $500 by having the fastest first sector time. What a weekend for her!

(She might also have won the season overall for the Monster Energy Pro Series. Not sure about that. She came into the race in 2nd in the standings and series leader Kailey Skelton had difficulties in the 3rd sector, ultimately finishing 22nd. That might have been enough to give Aletha the series points lead.)

3rd through 5th were: Maylei Leaneagh, Mille Johnset, and Arleigh Kemp.

Time gap from 1st to 5th was 6.57 seconds.

A quick note about Arleigh Kemp, in case anyone's wondering: She's a 15-year old Canadian DH racer who's had quite a bit of success the past couple of years. I'm pretty sure she lives in Whistler, BC.

Canyon may need to capture the vibe Aletha got from this event and apply it to world cups. Not sure if it can possibly transfer over but she was just vibin in the zone.

pretty sure between her, kiefer, and troy's results recently (and their recent "team" wins), the canyon vibe is strong. now if luca can just get some luck...

I just checked on the timing site for the US Open and it seems to be frozen. It last updated something like 25 minutes ago, when Asa Vermette was on the hill. It showed his 1st split time and nothing after that. At that time, the top 4 finishers were Norton, Rude, Brosnan and Gwin.

Haha, what a suspenseful way to finish the race coverage. As I mentioned in a previous comment, the "live" timing site they use for this race is not very impressive. This is another example.

alright i'll confess. I'll stop putting him on my Fantasy so he can get a podium.

it's his fault for riding so well in TT/Qz! what was I supposed to do!?

Well, they just updated it.

Dakotah Norton wins the US Open by 0.67 seconds over Richie Rude. I think he also wins the $500 Hole Shot prize for fastest 1st split time.

3rd - 5th were: Brosnan, Vermette, Gwin.

Time gap from 1st to 5th was 3.63 seconds.

Prize money:

1st - $15,000

2nd - $7500

3rd - $3750

4th - $1875

5th - $950

Impressive for Dak to win on that track after the injury.  Definitely shows how good he is at generating speed from bike inputs.

Should go a long way for his renovation goals.  Both on and off the bike with that 15 k.

A few quick notes on US Open and Monster Energy Pro Downhill Series:

- Dakotah now has three wins and one 2nd place finish in the last 4 US Opens.

- Kailey Skelton won the Series overall by just 4 points, with Mayleigh Leaneagh taking second. Kailey won 3 of the 5 Series races this year.

- Aaron Gwin won the men's Series overall by 12 points (215 to 203) over Dante Silva. Five different men won races this season.

(I don't know if they give a cash prize for winning the overall.)

I believe there is a series prize but it’s very small compared to the individual races.  Clay has stated one of his goals is to increase the purse for the overall series.

Best rider to never have won a world cup, hope that title doesn't stick with him for his entire career.

Stoked for Dak what a turnaround for him over this season.

Where did Richie Rude find the pace? He's been struggling in DH all season really, and suddenly turned it on

Goat Skull is on the flatter side for a DH race course. I could picture Richie's pedal and pumping power being a weapon on this track. Either way I'm stoked for both of them.

The wide open upper woods looks sick, tons of line choice.

considering that high-speed straight, we may have to implement the Vital MTB Sammy Hagar award if anyone gets over 55mph.

In 1999 Jurgen Beneke said if we want the average US citizen to watch downhill we need to give them what they understand. Speed, big air and crashes. I hope there are no gnarly crashes but this track has high speed, big air and enough tech to keep it interesting. Should be a great race. My money is on Asa for the win.

Aaron should be pretty proud of what they've accomplished.

Cool to see a World Cup track with slow speed tech corners instead of the usual stuff of the last few years. Could (hopefully) make for some cool special lines people might keep in their pocket until their race runs.

That middle straight at Whitface is going to be so fast!

That track is sick.
