All anyone needs to know about how small the field of dh racing is - a $100k prize is enticing.

$100k is barely a rounding error in most pro sports.

Just saw a post today saying max contract nba player earns about 600k per game... on the other hand, how many sports can say we are fueled by passion 😆

Shohei Ohtani the Japanese GOAT, ignoring the deferred contract, $700m over 10 years

70m a year

1.34m a week

192k a day

8k an hour

$133 PER FUCKING SECOND LOL

He takes a shit and get's payed more than an elite top 10 rider in that time.

8k/hour / 60mins = 133 per minute. 133/minute / 60 seconds = $2.22 per second

However, most of that money comes at the end of his contract.. They pulled some tricks to get around the salary cap..

I think Mille would fit in well with the YT crew.  Maybe since Sian isn't doing world cups this year?

2 canyon riders off the enduro team and Jessie doing a few DH at the end of last year, any chance Canyon is getting rid of the enduro team?

Wouldn't bet against it at this stage, given how UCI/Ballbag have shafted the series.

I was wondering earlier today when I saw the FMD thing made official if we're on the brink of seeing more corporate teams. Like why would a brand want to run a team when you could just contract local rich guy who likes bikes (yes, more popular in western Canada than many other places). I'm pretty sure GM owns that Norco team and MS has been running this way forever. If I was a brand why would I want to hire a team of bike industry people to try and run a team when I could go find a rich person who wants to have some fun and go to Europe a few times a summer. Have them bank roll some non bike people to potentially make the team profitable, if it's not profitable they'll at least get to write off their Europe trips and pay less income tax at the end of the year because they "reinvested assets".

Actually,  a lot of WC DH teams are like that.. Pivot and Specialized are both like that. It's more common than you think.

Top road cycling teams have a budget in 50-60 M region. One such team could run the whole UCI DH circus. 30 M for, say, SC, Trek, Spez and Muc-Off, 30 M for the rest.

Him and Finsty are also off Blenders eyewear so I guess relatively major sponsor changes in the gravel/lifetime/american xc endurance world

I would doubt SC, Trek, Spec and Muc-Off would have a combined total budget of over $12 million a year. I'd wager the entirety of the UCI DH teams, combined, would be below $30 million.

Most of the World Tour level road teams have outside sponsors that help foot those bills.  Heck, most of the time, the bike brand is listed 2nd or 3rd on the team name..

Also now realizing it would make sense with FMD leaving Canyon. Canyon might just move to one big team with the Collective or whatever they call it with Troy.

Given the state of the industry and enduro, most enduro racers that are without a ride for next season, probably won’t get one with the UCI being so vague about enduro and its plans for it…

'25 is going to see a good number of Enduro riders racing in Grassroots series near home countries, or living out of rented sprinters to make the races. I don't expect that to change for '26, but maybe '27 we'll see something.
