Gwin knows how to ride bikes for sure, but someone in his camp should teach him to strike while the iron is hot. Three or four weeks ago when news that his relationship with Specialized had ended I was very curious as to what he'd be riding in 2016.

We have lots of first and second-hand industry information and hear a lot of the rumors you all do. Some we know to be true, some we know to be false. Unfortunately for the gossip mill, we do our best to only publish confirmed news. There have been no official press releases, tweets, instagrams or FB posts about Gwin's 2016 sponsor status, so until that happens, we'll keep guessing with all of you.
So if you have confirmed information on signings do you not drop the news due to fear of being blacklisted and potential advertiser impacts to this website?
Been curious how the dichotomy of 'marketing conduit' and that of information published for public interest works with places like Vital?
Anyway, big fan of the rumor mill and bravo to any organization that is trying to publish 'news'. Love the idea of these calculated marketing announcements going sideways.
Any publication worth it's salt will not publish any confirmed, but still not public news. In some cases (IT industry) there are strict NDAs in place preventing that, but any gun jumping and publishing of rumors will probably blacklist that publication. Also publications dealing with rumors on a regular basis tend to be very yellow and click baitish.

good question, inclag.
generally if we get confirmed news early (from a rider or brand), there's usually an embargo attached. we respect embargoes (advertisers or non-advertisers...it doesn't matter). even when other sites break the embargoes (sam hill a year or two ago was a big one), we still wait for the official release dates, even though it makes us off the back.
if we get 2nd or 3rd hand info that we know is true or most likely true, it usually comes from a source that does not have the authority to make an official statement. we're not going to risk making a claim that could end up being false or breaking an embargo.
the rumor stuff is really fun and intriguing, especially during the off-season. at the end of the day though, accuracy and playing by gentlemen's rules (or even the law) is more important to us than digging too far into a rider's business for some clicks.
with this forum thread, you guys are faster than we are half the time now w/ grabbing social media posts and news. it's pretty crazy! keep it up! is lourdes here yet?

What's interesting about this is how it works in the financial news world - a world in which there is far more to gain/lose regarding a press release or news story.
Two thoughts here. One, it is quiet common for very reputable sources to post something that isn't confirmed. (Bloomberg, Reuters, Kara swisher
) EG "xyz company looking to acquire abc company" so long as they are "citing a source" or "someone close to the situation". Happens all the time. Reuters, DJ and Bloomberg specifically are able to do so because they are usually right and often times getting the information direct from a planned company leak.
Two, there are embargoes in my world too. Sometimes they are jumped, and when they are jumped I usually cite the company jumping the embargo as the source. Mind you I work at a subscription based financial news service...
Point is I respect vitals newswire-ish higher ground but did want to mention there is room for "sourced speculation" among higher end publications.
sspomer keeps it in the correct perspective. The rumor stuff is "fun and intriguing". Nothing more. No reason to get all bent out of shape because some rider won't tell you who his/her sponsor's are yet. Keep the wild speculation going!

we'll speculate for sure. gwin's audi video shoot instagram post a few weeks back had us do just that. "hey, gwin posted up an instagram about shooting a commercial with audi. does it mean anything his for 2016 plans?" we had no idea, but it's fun to wonder and we didn't say gwin was on audi or anything like those sites did yesterday.
Just my two pence.....
Gwins recent interview on pink bike was very business like in nature and as much as I respect the boy, I think there has been a lot of guidance from a management side of things. Which for his career is a good thing. He also states when looking at new teams they must have a good base or starting point with the bike. Doesn't have to be an immediate winner. On that basis I could personally see him on a slightly more in refined machine. Maybe Scott, Norco etc. Yes carbon mounds can be remade but at high cost as we all know. I think he'll be on an an aluminium bike next year, with which to build on. But then, this is purely speculation

I posted a comment on a dirt article and tahnee posted in response , " another 2 weeks or so " till her announcement .

In all seriousness I thoroughly enjoy ambats' writing and hope she is well supported. She is skilled at her crafts both on and off the bike.
Yea I'm not funny I shouldn't have said that. I do like seeing a rider(or anyone for that matter) who speaks their mind and isn't afraid to do so, we need more riders like her in that regard.
some brand that's more crazy and more desperate for attention than her
I mean her model works without hiccup in the ski world. Squeaky wheel gets the oil (skacting, modeling, reality TV, crazy dramatic blog posts, narcissistic feature length videos about yourself...whatever)
Now I just don't care.
Could this be laurie Greenland & greg Williamson ?
any word on danny hart , looks like the rest of his team have moved on..
