Everybody is talking like KTM (moto) does not take any part in the MTB scene (sponsorship wise), but have they not been supporting the Austrian national team for several years? I seem to recall both XC and DH Austrian national jerseys at world champs always being filled with KTM logos. It doesn't seem logical that the bicycle company would do this as none of them actually ride KTM's.
My Guess KTM/YT Alpinestars/Fox
...only my two cents
Don't see KTM (moto) doing that - 2016 they need their budget in moto gp and the vacant position at Rojo's company is, in my opinion, related to the KTM demands when building new moto gp rigs.
anyway - just my two cents cut down to 1,50 ;-)
And with regards to budget, companies dont pick one project a year and spend all their available cash on it, the motogp budget will be completely separate from a marketing budget which will be completely separate to a product development budget.
Also if you were developing a motogp bike, existing mx bikes and road bikes, would it not make sense that if you were thinking about entering a smaller market (such as mtb), you would subcontract the project to a company with more experience developing mtbs?
I dont think Gwin will be on a KTM, but if he is sponsored by them this year i would expect a market entry in the next 2/3/4 years
KTM will start in Moto GP in 2017 - Roll-Out (public/official or what the f... you want to call it) of the new bike was in November 2015

Yes, I think a company that seriously want´s to compete in Moto GP and does mainly MX bikes will hire a outside company for development. The "oustider" has the resources and if everything goes to shit you can just cancel the contract and do not have to deal with "funny" Austrian labor unions because of the lay off of people you do not need anymore.
I am not a specialist regarding Moto GP development programs, but I think it is smart to go to someone with more know how than you have inhouse.
Regarding the budget
I thing the same way you do - but KTM "dances" on many parties and I really think Moto GP development eats up enough budget that you do not have "play money" left for something that is not really your core business.
Like I said before - just my 2 cents
I've worked for a manufacturer with an F1 team and its basically like being in a separate company, and even F1 teams will go outside for certain aspects of design. So i guess the point i was trying to make is that i doubt CERO is leading any motogp development, possibly just collaborating/consulting on parts.
I would have to admit that im probably 100% wrong on KTM producing a mountainbike, but its always nice to imagine more big players entering the industry.
This thread is 99% speculation, but i gotta admit i love the discussion on marketing/product development strategy it brings.
sorry for my unclear statement - the cherry picking was not meant entirely in your direction. there were discussion about other small tiny details before and sometimes I feel like we all drift away and forget about MTB´s ;-)
