responsiblepirate Added a reply to 2017 Racing Rumors
2/20/2017 5:26am The Athertons didn't design anything. Saying "a little longer here" and "a little slacker there" isn't designing, its feedback. They were payed to sell the bike and that's what they did... likely with the help of anglesets and suspension tech nobody here knows about (for example when the air 40's came out, most of the bigger names just ran coils...

2/17/2017 4:42am Do you mean instead of the hook like configuration connecting the swing arm to the "pull" link?

2/14/2017 5:02am Dont know about world cups, but id be willing to bet my house on him racing the champs. He just has to make the USA team, which depending on their criteria could be as simple as "Richie, we know you'll do well so you're on the team regardless"
responsiblepirate Added a reply to Help build a new clothing line - Singletrack Supply Co
1/27/2017 3:27am I think i could add some thoughts here, i dont feel any brand truly offers the clothing range i personally want so here goes; - A simple product range with easy to select gear; summer gear- light, breathable and winter gear- warm, waterproof, hard wearing, waterproof pants that dont look stupid. - Get the fit right, if you can offer...
responsiblepirate Added a reply to Is straighter and faster really that bad for a World Cup track?
1/18/2017 3:28am A straight line section or 2 fair enough, but why not tape some flat turns in there to make it interesting? I dont think adding or removing fast sections would make me watch, but taping sections wider would, every section taped as wide as reasonably possible and then see who has the most imagination

11/29/2016 6:23am haha, i think this everytime i see a pro bike for sale. I did a weekend thing with the athertons once and Dan was showing how to do a road gap on his 150mm travel AM bike, he was purposefully casing the 10/15 foot gap to make the corner. I wouldn't take a single bike off these people if it...

11/11/2016 6:16am The Syndicate stuff i think is all but confirmed, as is the Manon to Radon rumour. Brosnan to Canyon i think will happen, plus another two riders if they're looking to make a splash with the new bike (possibly Macdonald and a female?) Hart to Trek just seems so unlikely, especially with the amount of budget they have dropped on...

9/21/2016 5:09am Dint do 5+ years at uni on what is commonly ranked as the 3rd hardest course to complete to avoid giving my profession for fear of "being that guy". Its the ones who aren't and claim to be that are the real clowns- you fit boilers, you're not an engineer! Aaaaaanyway, is Brosnans contract up? Giant were hard for him...

9/5/2016 12:47am I know Ratboy has met with Intense, and that he "dislikes" racing world cups to put it lightly. That is racing, not riding, this guy would be out having a time on his bike whether sponsored or not. Regards to his focus and training? Don't be fooled, people thought the same about Palmer and he was putting in just as...
responsiblepirate Added a reply to The Internet Was Wrong: Short Chainstays Suck*
8/3/2016 8:07am exactly, its all about proportion, CS should increase with reach. How well would a human work if the legs never grew proportionally with torso length?

8/3/2016 5:10am Not read anything else in the thread, was kind of skimming through to see if anybody mentioned hardtails. I bought a Kona Explosif with adjustable dropouts earlier this year and despite the fact i dont believe shorter=better, i slammed them to the front (425mm). I ride techy, steep, rough trails and this definitely gave the bike a skittish character, felt...
responsiblepirate Added a reply to Is Social Media Putting Too Much Pressure on Athletes?
6/1/2016 4:22am Surely the reality here is that no PRO rider is being payed to ride a bike, they're being payed to advertise a product. Therefore why shouldn't social media interactions be monitored just as much as racing results? To be payed to do anything, someone has to find value in it, and the value companies place on riders in most cases...
responsiblepirate Added a reply to Wrenches / Shop Employees, What's Your Biggest Pet Peeve?
5/4/2016 4:36am In my final year of university and had already done about 4 years in industry on shopfloor, i was working part time wrenching and a guy returned a brand new bike claiming the front chainring teeth had snapped off- they were the shift teeth, he then claimed "i think id know, im an aerospace engineer", asked him where he got...

5/1/2016 12:31pm I "wrenched" for 6/7 years whilst at uni and honestly the thing that annoys me the most (and this wont be popular), is bike mechanics who think this is some sort of god given talent and that good customer service isn't required because you can build a good wheel. Ill never understand the strange elitist attitude some guys have as...
responsiblepirate Added a comment about bike check 2016 Norco Aurum - Norco Factory Racing 'team edition'
3/8/2016 4:52am More pedal bob and a more active rear end. It wont effect the axle path, as thats tied to the length of your chainstays/seat stays.

3/8/2016 4:44am 10 of the top 20 riders at the Portuguese nationals are British with all but 2 of the rest foreign as well. Thats crazy.

2/29/2016 4:08am Silence with regards to chainslap and creaks. And the distance from brake lever clamp to grip. the few times ive flown ive had to mark my bars up with a sharpie so im not messing about trying to get them where i want them.
responsiblepirate Added a reply to Yoann Barelli's Brake Lever Position
2/28/2016 9:15am tried this today (thought trying it may actually give me more of an idea than blindly speculating on a web forum.. crazy right?). fairly long ride with steep rocky technical descents, i was quite surprised at how natural it felt, its a really similar hand position to bench pressing and i think it utilises the forearm muscles better. Drops felt...
responsiblepirate Added a reply to do you workout?
2/19/2016 12:15am Ha, knew that was coming. The way i train might not match up with a textbook, but its worked for me, thats all i was stating. Now i didnt spend a weekend getting my personal trainer cert, so im no expert, but if i do those "wrong track" excercises and actually see benefits on the bike, then id say that...
