Used to rabidly follow the World Cup slideshows when they were a thing, and I watch pretty much every Raw on YouTube these days. Mainly used PB for the buy and sell and skimming news. Always came here for the real scoop. Spomer, can we get "ADVICE" with Charlie going again? I was over the moon when that series got announced, seems it kinda faded out.

I read other sites. I like reviewers from both for different reasons. I enjoy what each site does differently. I wish the staff at PB all the best. Still I will absolutely not put up with gated paywall content. The Ad model seemed to work as far as I could tell. They have a certain kind of rabid fan base that makes for an interesting community and they have major industry cred... and I feeling it's all going to rapidly erode away. I hope not but this is what big conglomerates do. Just look at what Dorel did to the Ironhorse name. Bam. Straight to crapper with all of that storied and legendary history. PB isn't or hopefully isn't in the dire straits that IH was.

All the same this sucks. Wish all the staff well and I hope Vital gives them a fair shot when they all inevitably bail.

Anyone remember Littermag?

This PB acquisition echoes the same bemoaning back then. Yes, Littermag lost a bit of its Freecaster.tv vibes after selling out but it's a lot like Redbull TV now. It's still rad. #clappinyodome

As far as I see, the biggest asset that PB had was it's buy/sell page. If VitalMTB actually had something that competed with the PB buy/sell page, you guys would be kicking their asses since day one.

Realistically this is a common theme nowadays. The owner of some social media site gets big, then sells the rights, cashes out and doesn’t give a Fu*k about anything anymore cause they just got a check for 20-100 million.

At least the PB sale is not as bad as the Instagram cat lady who started a small pet food “company”, which was nothing more than a concept w/ a few “cat snacks” …….and PetCo comes in a year later and buys it for 25 million.

Never used Pinkbike (or Vital's) forums but have been on both forever. Have always liked Vital's race content best (with exception of Cathro). Will be interesting to see how/if Vital changes at all now.

I think this will be a good place to put it, will also put it on the PB forum, I'm thinking of making a video about some of the best Pinkbike commenters of all time (think Waki, DCA, MattP76). I was wondering if anyone has any other good shouts. Commenters that you see all the time, usually with something interesting or funny to say.

I’ve been following Vital for a few years now, but only recently started following Pinkbike because of the XC content. I love Vital because there isn’t a lot of unnecessary comments and the content is great. My only wish is they covered more XC (bike reviews, XCO WC race results, interviews/bike checks with XC folks, etc…) like Pinkbike. Believe it or not, XC is a discipline of MTB despite all of the Lycra lol.

We’re doing a bit more of it recently, we have a tester who helps out with XC gear (he shreds DH and Enduro too, as a side note). He’s not full time though so it’s a question of what we can get too. With increasing downcountry/XC/trail overlap it’s a relevant space for sure.

That’s great to hear! In the meantime, post some XC race results when they occur. It shouldn’t take any more resources, as you’re already covering/posting DH results.
