Specialized's legal department likes to find trademark infringements. Legally totally in their rights but outraged the cycling community. I won't link a specific article, dealers choice for who's POV you want to read.

If I remember right, a big question people had was how can Specialized copyright "Roubaix" when it's the name of a town?

A bit off topic - but oh well: The Big Spesh has been notorious for copy right infringement litigation (after buying a patent to prevent US companies for using horst link without paying substantial royalty fees) for a decade+ or so while infringing on smaller brands patents at the same time. While it has been their right to sue infringers from a legal standpoint, it is still a bit untoward conduct from a brand created by rebranding other brands' bikes and using other people's patents without paying for it. The biking industry is not the tech industry (check out Samsung v Apple for copyright litigation...) Spesh also changed their billing process during the recession, supposedly putting a lot of small bike shops out of business for having to pay Spesh on a very short notice for what was in stock rather than on selling the bikes as i believe was the norm previously. I might be mistaken. Spesh also demands a lot of control and near exclusivity from their main dealers, while not always showing the same loyalty the other way around. I also remember our local brand rep selling Demos at the end of season a few years ago while claiming that next years bikes were near identical - except they were nothing of the sort with significantly altered geo transforming the demo from a freeride bike to a dh race bike.

In all honesty, i have detested Spesh due to the aforementioned behavior since i can remember, so there might be a bit of a bias on my part to find wrong doing on their part... Wink

It will be interesting to see what Bruni and the other froggies might have them develop after supposedly not being overly fond of the prototype mentioned previously in this thread. Hopefully things will work out for Graves as well. Not staying by him if his contract has run out will not do wonders for Spesh' already tattered reputation, even if they probably pay well while under contract.

Is it possible that Graves chose not to resign a contract? We have no idea what is happening behind the scenes, what they have done to help him or haven’t done. Maybe he doesn’t want to possibly take a spot from an active racer. To blame Specialized right now seems like a reason to hate based on the past.

It could totally be possible that he chose not to renew the contract seeing as he's still recovering. Unneeded racing stress probably being one of the main things to avoid while recovering. At the same time, Specialized has a history for not always being transparent and sometimes cutting ties abruptly when things don't go their way...

back on topic boys!

Looks like Finn was getting along fine with that proto 29er earlier this year... Holy shit those boys are quick.

That was the Prototype Demo 29. The same one that Miranda Miller was on at fort william. It has a different rear end than the previous demo.

But can somebody make a 2019/2020 bike rumor forum? instead of posting things on the racing rumors.

You missed the part where Specialized seem to just forget the whole part where the Fuji bike brand licences the ‘Roubaix’ name to Specialized in the United States.... Oh and Specialized were never given the green light to register the name in Canada but did so anyways...

Turns out the internet isn't a fan of large companies lying about what is theirs....

BUT! LETS GET BACK TO RUMORS!

Laughing Just because John Hall is hanging out with chuck doesnt mean AG is on intense.. John is a pretty darn cool person to hang out with regardless of team movements!

Or maybe AG is retiring and Hall is just trying to find a way to make ends meet.

After all the PR fiasco Specialized was through in the last couple of years * cough-cough, Roubaix cafe *, I am pretty sure they are very aware of the image damage they are risking in such a case, even their contract with Jared ends this year anyway, so I am sure they will play nice, as they have good reasons to do so. Not to mention the fact that besides contracts and business, Specialized is still a bunch of people and those people tie connections, so I am pretty sure Graves has a ton of support from Specialized, one way or the other.

This also reminds of Johnny Waddell and what class acts Santa Cruz and Red Bull have been, as he is still keeps connections to them, if my information is correct.

Much love to Graves regardless of our talk here,

How is Johnny Waddell these days? I remember that crash at St. Anne.
I met Josh in December 2014 for a job interview at a bike shop around Cape Schanck, which was on the other side of the bay from Philip Island.

Josh was wrenching for that Giant's shop few days a week. Still a top lad despite what he has to overcome ever since his crash at MSA. He was giving me tour of the shop but we all talked about was about the good old time of DH racing. That guy is a legend and an absolute animal and a total gentleman. He was racing marathon xc and triathlon back then.

Although Scott and Nino sounds/seems like a bond for the lifetime.. Perhaps something changing? They've had a Scott-team-gala thing last night.

..or he just thanked the team for another amazing season. A team gala is a perfect occasion for that. Smile

edit spomer here - i deleted the photo because eliot jackson asked us to. he said, "i had to choose between riding with a childhood hero or not because i was on the wrong bike and then someone screenshotted the ricky carmichael story."

no news here regarding EJ.

That kinda confirms something I heard about gigantic ditching the DH bike and program. I hope it’s not so. The frame needs an update.

Check his posts, all bike related are tagged '#scootsram' even the last video from yesterday. (It doesn't mean anything though I know nothing about his contract.)

Hah, just the photo I was about to write about!

Brayton on Oakley more than likely means he's off Scott, because it seems that certain sponsorship deals come in packages. I remember when Brendan switched to Scott Bicycles he was a Smith Optics rider and I was sure he was going to keep that long-running collaboration, but they put them on their optics team too. Even if Brayton wasn't on the Scott factory team, he definitely received some support from them and probably the goggles came in that package too. This pic can mean that he indeed switches frames, so the Nukeproof rumour is closer to reality.

Thought Brayton was on Hope and whatever frame he likes, which Hope gets for him.

I don't believe it's as simple as that, like a kid with a super wealthy parent walking into a candy shop: ”So what do you wish for, love?!” It's too fairy-tale like.

I believe it's more probable that they have excellent ties in the industry (duh!) and they work together looking for support, as things never fall from the sky. They probably receive certain offers, get to test ride bikes and the keep the best balanced package. Say, for instance, Trek offers two frames per year, an enduro bike and a road bike and Specialized offers the same plus tires, but he doesn't like the Demo so much, so they go with Trek even if the other deal included tires. This is just speculation, of course, I can't possibly know what the exact relatioship on the Brayton - Scott axis via Hope was... But we're here for this kind of talk, right? Smile

Yeah, Brayton always seemed to have a semi-gwin like deal with his sponsors, picking what packages he liked best with Hope covering the rest. Sounds like a great program for a racer.

Tbh, there's so many fast Canadian kids right now but so few going factory. I think it's easier for Americans to get picked up than Canadians

Which seems strange to me given that you can pay a Canadian $25000 CAD and it only cost like 20 bucks USD
