I think the new format only serves towards Chris Ball's vision of making downhill like F1, focused on elite teams and riders only. The polo shirt and chino wearing presenters and the laboured camera shots of team managers are part of this. By introducing a semi final, it now takes about 5.5 hours to watch mens and womens semis and finals, which even as a hardcore racing fan, I felt was too long. Most people, particularly those new to the sport are going to end up watching the finals only, meaning a lot of unprotected riders are going to miss...

I guess I look at this thread where people from all around the world bring/come to find info on new and interesting mtb related things. more like “Hey, look at what’s going on over at BikeRumour! rather than, “why isn’t anyone talking about this thing I think should be talked about…” like we all play a part in the success of this thread, not a condemnation of missed opportunities. I just went through and watched all the guys instagram videos again and missed the part where 5dev were aware of the likelihood of failure. They acknowledged it broke and offered TWO pairs of their stronger freeride cranks or a full refund (which I’d take over a formal apology any day). Was pretty clear the guy posting was a troll from the get go when he responded to their initial message of “how can we help” with “bruh” and a face palm emoji… unfortunate that he got a defective crank but he’s got enough whine it makes me wanna prep...

What was wrong with how 5dev dealt with that guy? They offered him a refund or new set. He just kept bitching. Literally nothing else you can do lol.

Yeah, it's a real shame Cam went straight to socials before the situation was resolved. Especially for someone in the trade. It's shit his crank snapped but he should have been handled in private first. Man made the coolest international race series there was. Had photographers and pros jumping there to work/ride for free cause it was exciting. then he ruined that series making it “commercial” and ruined interest in covering and watching it. Nobody wants to watch pros race a local enduro race the whole draw was the new locations, epic days, and unreal stage lengths. now he’s ruining dh selling out the same way. he literally states in his podcast the tracks are too long to broadcast a full run which is exactly what he is promising fans by this discovery switch. A decent chunk of youtube views for mtb stuff supposedly comes from teens/tweens. Hard to fault Norco for being uncomfortable with the optics of him having only fans advertised on his helmet (I mean his mtb helmet just to be clear). And lets be real, if only fans really wanted to show they're not just porn, they'd make a separate but identical platform for non porn content only and call it something else. Having "only fans" emblazoned on a helmet is just like any other advertising, it's meant to get more people on that site where they might find "other"...
