At first, I was like, no that can't be right, then I looked again. Yes, that makes sense, if you try and make the front and rear pins level with each other. I think having the axle centered between the pins is probably better for midfoot pedaling. Another option to consider along with Tmac and Crampon. Weirdly Outlier Pendulum could've gone centered, but didn't. Honestly, I'm still not sure why convex and concave matter. I personally look for set-screw type pins as I think they're they're grippiest. A hole up top and threads give a lot more edges to bite...

Varaxis Added a reply to Tweener: make a small bike big, or a big bike small
2/21/2026 7:37am If it's a very compact bike, such as a short travel ripper, I'd lean towards the larger size. If it's a very long bike, such as some gravity sled, I'd lean towards the smaller size. This is just in general. Of course I'd consider a lot more than this, as I'd like to make full use of all the context...
Varaxis Added a reply to Does Unsprung Weight Really Impact MTB Suspension Performance?
12/17/2025 10:14am Ground hugger. It feels different on SoCal loose-over-hard than you'd expect, and even weirder taken up to higher altitude forests on composty duff. With some sense of the ground gone, it leaves you sensing the suspended part of the bike, which means that sensing the bike's geo changing becomes so heightened that it dominates your thoughts. You start to feel...
Varaxis Added a reply to Does Unsprung Weight Really Impact MTB Suspension Performance?
12/16/2025 10:52am TBH, I've ridden a bike with suspension that was glued to the ground and it pretty much trivialized the challenge in the trail. It encouraged me to go even faster, to the point that I was back to the limits of traction, to feel like I was progressing in skill. When I said it felt dead to others, and they...
Varaxis Added a reply to One bike to do it all?
12/16/2025 9:30am I ditched all my "pedal-fast" bikes (road, cross/gravel, XC, short travel trail, AM) after I stopped riding them, in favor of my 140mm FS emtb. I replaced it with a 160 FS emtb 10k miles after, and have not looked back. I started to convert to a lifestyle rider, using the bike more more utilitarian purposes, like transportation for work...

12/16/2025 9:19am While my ideal setup would be DJ + Trail + DH, I am at the point of my life (young family, small flat, two jobs, mountains), where I can store and use one bike only. Even though it makes me bitter to some extent (as a former e-bike disbeliever), I can’t imagine a better one-bike-quiver than the Yeti MTe, after thoroughly testing it around Alps. I can use assist when I slept only for three hours or remove battery at all when I rarely (once a season) join a group of fellow bio-bikers. 95% of time I ride alone. I...

Varaxis Added a reply to Does Unsprung Weight Really Impact MTB Suspension Performance?
12/16/2025 8:54am IMO, other things like rotational weight get way too much attention compared to unsprung weight. If I were racing, I'd focus a lot on reducing unsprung weight. But... since I'm not a racer, I just get whatever's dependable and easier to live with.

1/8/2025 6:39pm I reckon either stay would work. The pivot & bearing would have to increase in diameter to accommodate the sleeve.

Varaxis Added a reply to Thoughts on the current generation of forks
10/24/2024 9:00pm Or it could just be heat/cold to temporarily alter the dimensions, then use retaining compound to reinforce the interference fit. They way they market/hype it up sounds like it was an April Fools' joke. I thought this is what many small shops did to replace steerers and stanchions.

10/17/2024 12:34pm The guys who made Lefty are probably laughing, as they used technology to do away with the need for all this fancy engineering. People calling for tighter tolerances/alignment, plus extra rigidity through material choice and dimensional/geometry changes (beefier CSUs, inc moving to 38+mm stanchions) will have all this most of the benefit go out the window once the chassis is...
Varaxis Added a comment about feature Vital Test Sessions - Canyon Strive CFR Underdog
11/24/2023 5:46am "What balances the Strive out is the slack headtube angle, which helps stick the front wheel to the ground." *facepalm*

Varaxis Added a reply to What do you prioritize from an e-bike?
11/18/2023 9:19am Range dictated my ride intent more than anything else. I tuned my bike to have less chance to break down in the middle of no where, since I planned to simply explore as long as I had battery power in reserve. Battery reserves mattered even more than food/water and other supplies when it came to deciding if I wanted to...
Varaxis Added a comment about feature Size Does Matter - Small vs XL with Pivot Cycles
9/14/2023 10:34pm Yea, I wish bike makers would set the bike's balance to one's natural standing pedaling position. I don't want to be too forward or rearward from that. Should also address issues like sag (riding height/bike attitude) when sitting vs standing. I've personally experimented with an 80° STA and found that bikes could get even steeper on STA, but the main drawback is that a dropper post is a *MUST*, since the saddle is effectively in the same space as my standing pedaling position if it were up. That's exactly what my wish is, though.

9/14/2023 10:21pm #1 I want a silent-operating FS mtn bike!!!!!!!!!!!! #2 I want it to be an emtb. I got my eyes on the TQ HPR motor. I want 3+ hrs worth of battery assist on low/med. My needs are simply just wanting a bit of speed to generate more air flow to keep me cooled, while maintaining moderate intensity (~145 bpm)...

1/6/2023 11:59am In the auto world, this chassis damping topic is covered under "NVH (Noise Vibration Harshness)". Some producers take it so seriously that they place their car into anechoic chambers to study/measure NVH. Their strategy is not to eliminate it all, but to target the most unpleasant parts of it. I figure that this means targeting high-pitched/frequence noises for correction, perhaps...
Varaxis Added a comment about press release Bright Racing Shocks Releases New SKUNK Fork
12/17/2022 3:33pm Ah, the X-Fusion Revel had patented the key system for their inverted fork, which is similar to droppers. Gave a good look at this instagram post, but didn't recognize any key system: https://www.instagram.com/p/BVK_BhjjZNQ/?hl=en I see split bushing, a lobed c-ring thingee, a hole near where the bushing is on the slider... is there not one? Just nothing done about the lack of torsional stiffness, letting the axle handle it?
