On a follow up article, how about some simple If/Then tips? Ex If you keep getting bucked on the same jump, then try increasing rebound compression on the shock/decreasing compression on the fork?

I over cleared the first straight drop a tiny bit, and did the next step up slowly because of it. After the 180 left and went off the boner log just fine, but I thought I needed to pedal harder than what I did, so I over cleared the next step up right hip, and landed on the wall to the left. I pumped the next small hip hard due to that mistake and being lined up on the left instead of the right, and still cased it a little. The next setup jump was fine before the satellite step...

I wish 'style' played a little bigger part in some of the slopestyle that goes on. Despite the banger tricks, this just looks awesome.

One of the best things about MTB racing (XC and DH) is the lack of regulations on the bikes from the UCI. The lack of regulations is what makes MTB racing what it is, and has allowed this sport to evolve with different types of bikes, suspension used in XC races, have different wheel sizes and suspension and materials raced against each other. I don't remember any XC racers whining about 650b tubulars on a hardtail racing against 29er suspension bikes. The athlete who wins had right equipment, training and luck to take the day. Its part of racing. Whether...

The F1 comparisons are nice to hear, and make the F1 paddock sound like the ultimate thing, but they have regulations galore. Specifically in wheels/tires. Years back they even had dimension rules, back when there were multiple tire suppliers. Michelin was able to engineer a tire that would 'stretch' during the course of a race, and it would pass checks before the race, then be discarded after. F1 finally caught on to the larger surface area, and limited the diameter before and after, squashing this temporary advantage. In my mind, the purpose of a racing governing body, like the UCI...

I'd void the warranty and risk complete fork failure to not have anything look like it is attached to my bike. This is an awesome innovation. How much to buy one? What is used to thread the steerer?

TRex Added a comment about product review Slayer

5/5/2017 12:57am
David, we think your experience is similar to what we have experienced. Your note about suspension feel is very accurate, as in the Nomad is more vague in the middle of the stroke. The Slayer feels easier to move around because of a more even leverage curve, but it feels more linear than the graphs would indicate. As the review stated, the tunes are different for medium/small/large, which seems rather arbitrary to us. Just because someone is small doesn't mean they need less ramp or compression, and just because they are big does not mean they want a more progressive...

Between those two, the Tracer or the Slayer, I'd go slayer for sure. The tracer is more efficient, and the Slayer can be ridden more like the DH/freeride background you're familiar with.

A rider's weight generally has no bearing on whether they use bands or tokens. Those things tend to change the linear/progressive feel of a bike, so they can help with personal preferences. Light riders (or heavy riders) sometimes change damping because of stock ranges, so it is a good thing to mention that it can be done if a rider wants, and that goes for almost any bike.

I wholeheartedly disagree: drunkwarner and freecaster made racing great again. We're seeing the result of having 'a future'. Not showing anywhere near the entire field coming down the course, wasting 20 minutes explaining what a bike is instead of showing racing, and a severe lack of Warner's anecdotes from the wild west of the 90s. Don't kid yourself. No non-mountain biker is going out of their way to deliberately tune into a red bull internet broadcast and buying a 6k bike because of it. It's better when it's for the intended audience.

I think the Pike rides just a tad bit higher in the travel compared to a similar travel Lyrik, so I would think your issue would be token related. Tokens, or main spring pressure are what might help you with a higher front end. I've usually been a fan of adding a 10mm spacer under the bar when I feel a little bit down in the front end during heavy braking.

TRex Added a comment about product review Freerider Pro

3/22/2017 8:31am
Bizutch, I will only race DH in these. The toe is better protected than a Freerider, the sole has better feel, but similar support to the Impact. The protection is similar to the Impact in my opinion from the footbed down, and even the toe. The Pro has less protection around the ankle. By far my favorite 5.10's. You trusted me towing you into those jumps at SolVista back in the day, remember??
