my heart goes out to his friends, family and everyone in the mountain bike community. always seemed a genuine person--didn't know him but his spirit shined through tv interviews. damn. my best friend died while we were on a ride together. just the two of us. fucking heartbreaking. this story, along with some beers, brought it all back and now I'm weeping at the bar. May you all find peace and live your life to the fullest.

Once on San Juan back in January. I think it was a Scott. I was jealous actually, it was slimy that day, it might have been the ultimate bike for that particular day. Then maybe two other times in Laguna. One of those was on an ebike, so that might not count.

Hopefully the trend for more trails everywhere continues. The last 10 years have seen new trails explode across the US, hopefully this momentum grows.

I'm a big fan of MTB Project. You download an area or state so all the trails are in your phone. Then you can fairly easily use it on the ride for turn-by-turn directions if needed. It was key to me linking a good ride in Sedona recently.

Man, I see it as a re-birth for some. Take my boss for example, Troy Lee. The dude loves mountain biking, A LOT. But almost 2 years ago he had a horrific motocross crash and shattered his hip. He has been recovering ever since and MTB for him while still one of his greatest pleasures, is tougher, and he has to cut his rides short because of the pain that arises in his hips from mashing pedals up the hills in Laguna where he rides. I think a bike like this is a game changer for him, because it will...

11-46T? Holy balls, that's an actually bold move from the captains of conservative design. And thank you Shimano for getting rid of the atrocious sub-pin design. We aren't roadies, we need easy to remove chains.

Everyone's an expert. Sheesh. Having ridden 5 of the 6 recommended, I can confirm everyone should go ride there. Some truly great riding. Must be winter time and people are looking for something to bitch about. Go change your damper oil, whiners.

It's all a drive for me. 20 minutes to good stuff in Laguna. 30 minutes to San Juan. The dream is pedal from the house one day to good dirt, but the dreaming slipping away...

Really? It is so bad to be able to use standard wheel/driver body if you want? And at a lower price? I see, I see, you said 'triggers', which means you mush shift with both hands. That must be so difficult, I know I'd lose my mind as well if I still had to use both thumbs to shift.

Boy this guy is a fun one. With a name like that not sure I'd expect anything else. I'd go with ride more new places more often. These are the rides you'll remember. The 50th time down your second or third most ridden trail start to blur.
What's a deckal? OK, now that the ugly American comment is out of the way....this is interesting. Not sure I'd buy it and put it on my helmet, but I like seeing helmet innovation. Just this morning I was reading a story on NFL guys and all of their head issues, it's so gnarly and sad. Hopefully helmet technology continues...
