In this alternate universe is there no need for DH casings and cushcore?

The welding (and heat treatment) was done by Ingo Müller. He is also welding the Kavenz Bikes for example. I'd say he's pretty good

Against better judgment (and drumming up a lot of old stuff) here is my full reply to the topic at hand... The answer is "it depends". Your bar height is going to be determined by a ton of factors (as others have already stated). *Where you ride *The type of bike you are riding *The reach & rear end length of the bike you are riding *Your own proportions *Your own style Ultimately, the best way to determine this would be to put sensors on our bikes to see how we are weighting the bike when riding. Couple this with...

I have been messing with bar height and width lately. I moved my bar height by about 50 mm in small increments and bar width from 740 to 800. So far, at the top height there was a lot of issues with front end traction in situations where you wouldn't expect it. Front end drifted a lot when just cruising/not riding aggressively. In steep/rough/fast riding it felt OK, but again some weird traction issues and there were several times when I had to pull the front tire back in line by yanking on the inside grip. Felt controlable, but definitely...

Thx! It's the 6-Gear Version with 295% range. Pretty much the same Range as a SRAM DH 7-Gear Setup. The reason for the Gearbox was first of all less unsprung weight on the rear wheel (about 450g), which makes the suspension more active and supple / plush. Which is the whole point of a DH-Bike suspension i'd say. The weight also sits perfectly low in the frame and makes the bike feel super planted and stable (low center of gravity). No derailleur to rip off, super low maintainance, always perfect chainline, no cassette to clog with mud, etc. is...

Yeah, we went save, especially on the chain- & seatstays in terms of wall thickness. But i'm pretty happy with the overall weight of 17,9 Kgs. There is no Carbon on the bike (except the handlebar), the rims are amongst the strongest on the market, the tires are true DH-Casings and no air shock. First ride was quite a blast

That's amazing. The bike just looks ridiculously clean and tidy for a home project. Who welded it? As I understand it, welding aluminum frame tubes is significantly harder than welding steel. I guess the biggest benefit is that machine time goes way down for making all the bits and bobs out of aluminum instead of steel. I have a friend who made a steel gearbox downhill bike and it seems like he spent a whole year on the mill making junctions and braces and pivot locations.

@Allen_Gleckner Thanks for asking. I'm running 10mm of spacers, a 50mm stem, and a 40mm rise handlebar rolled pretty far forward so it has less backsweep and more upsweep, but I'm also running a 180mm travel RS Zeb. That's important because the Zeb is a full 25mm taller than the 160mm 36 that came on the bike, so I've started...

I'm in no way an expert but *have* spent the last 4 months messing around with riser height, stem length, bar width and headset spacers. tl;dr is pretty much what @Falcon said. Climbing steep stuff would be trickier, a little (or a lot) less grip in corners and a more upright position overall. Some of it you can adjust for w/ body position but that can lead to other issues. I ended up going from a 130mm fork w/ 35mm stem and 780 bars to a 150mm fork w/ a 50mm stem and 740mm bars to get the position and...

Some additional thoughts that I haven't heard yet: 1. 29ers have taller front ends. Someone mentioned that as reach lengths got longer, WC pro's started lowering their handlebars. That's actually not true. It might look like pro's front ends are coming down because we see lower rise bars and fewer stem spacers, but that's because with 27.5 & 29" wheels...

The trend toward longer reaches concerns me for that reason. Bike companies are pushing for a change in rider style as they make longer bikes, but I haven't heard a single instructor agree with that push. Humans are bipeds, not quadripeds. I think this is a reason we are seeing so many pros size down/run narrower bars. I have have yet to see a downhill pro who isn't applying "light hands" for the majority of their run.

Michigan has hosted FIS World Cup ski events in the past and likely will again in the future. Michigan also hosted NORBA races back when that series was bigger and more important than UCI. You need a variety of tracks to put on a proper UCI DH schedule.

That was ridiculously pinned in those conditions. Lotta front wheel drifts in there. Reckon there aren't too many people in the world faster than Joe Smith on his home trails in the wet, even if he is technically retired.

I don't even have kids and I might buy one because it's a cool design piece. I might see if some of the neighborhood kids want to try it out then say no if they get excited.
