Racing isn't valuable enough that they build the frames for them and sell them to us. Its the other way around. The pro's get what they're given, they just ride them so hard they crack and go through multiple frames a season. Yeah i have, that's why i thought they would be lighter, the heavier they are the stronger they need to be as the forces are larger. I'm guessing a lot of it relates back to how heavy the engine and 4wd system is, and how heavy the wheels and rims are. These must be enormously strong and don't use composites...

How much does different resin types change the stiffness and feel of carbon? You don't really see many unique fibre types anymore, I remember having an old road bike with carbon kevlar forks. The rowing boats used to have kevlar in them frequently and have nomex honeycomb decks, everything is just carbon these days.

It's not quite the same, as knee and hip angles are different with different crank lengths. You can achieve the same final drive ratio with a long and short crank with different size chain rings, but they won't feel the same to use.
If you can find the tubes you can always change the geometry of the frame, smaller front triangle, larger head tube brace etc. It's also worth mentioning that steels most desirable trait is its compliance, stiff steel( large diameter)is too heavy which is why we use aluminum, or carbon for even stiffer triangles.

SPD's belong in a hall of fame with Nokia 9210's and cast iron cookware, they'll survive the heat death of the universe. If the OneUp SPD's last even half as long as a shimano they'll be incredible

Both type of headsets are fine and have their positives and negatives. The main reason i would say cups are far superior, is that it allows oversized/oval headtubes for reach adjust and angle sets. (you can do it with IS headsets but its less common). But IS on a XC bike would be my preffered, and cups with reach adjust...

Well looking at the rocker of Maes' Wild at Fort Bill, I'd say the rocker might still be the same (or at least very similar)

Transition have used solid side plane rockers as far as I know for 4+ years now. This one has a massive hole through it, which is very unlike their designs. The biggest change recently is the new sentinel has a one piece rocker whereas they've used 2 piece rockers for a while, but even then it doesn't have the hole...

the cable ports, rocker and chainstay yoke aren't very "transition", at least they haven't designed a frame like that recently, but could just be a mule so its not final designs and the hardware guess is more accurate

I agree with this sentiment, except for the DH riders are well earning folks in their 40-50s and want high end products. In my experience they're are extremely from 40-50 year olds hurtly down mountains on race ready DH rigs. Those people are much more likely to get long travel e-bikes to go around the alps.

I can assure you there's less Capex with their method of manufacturing than the traditional carbon molding methods. Same goes for their alloy frames vs. traditional construction methods. Their unit costs might be a touch higher and might not scale as easily or cost effectively but my assumption is they don't sell enough frames to be successful the traditional way with amortizing tooling costs so it seems they are taking the right approach. Capex can higher on alu projects than carbon ones, but the volumes with alloy make it worthwhile to turn a profit. For all small and medium brands...

The biggest issue I see with Atherton is that let's say they do get really popular and sell heaps. Great, start 3D printing lots of lugs and making lots of frames. The unit costs of the frames are the same if they make 20 or 2000. Sure some things may come down in price for them to bulk purchase, purchase...
