Hmmm. Since I was a kid, I've always gone "outside peg down" in the turns and pedaled out. I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think I can imagine pedaling ANY bike through a corner without getting a full-on pedal strike on the inside pedal. The closest I can imagine is starting with the inside pedal rearward and getting 270 degrees or so of pedal before you get it all the way down; by then, make sure you are straightening up out of the turn. Pedals and/or cranks with a smaller Q factor might help a little.

True but Continental is a HUGE corporation that's been making tires in Germany forever. We're a small brand run by a group of riders only making only bike tires (continental, maxxis, michelin, etc make tires for everything). The cost to setup a factory in the US would be astronomical (like $25,000,000 or more) and tires would have to be 100x what they are now to even begin to regain the costs.

Just to be sure... Are we talking Manufactured in NA, designed in NA or made by a company from NA? Big difference.

Great article Paul! Im totally with you on this one, I think this 'underbiking' crap that has grown so much in popularity is mostly just bravado and general dumb assery. Same goes for gravel biking, 'look how much fun Im having! I have to walk my bike past every technical feature and I crash constantly!'

Squirt lube after every second ride or so. Never clean it. Stuff is awesome. No gunk buildup.

I don't ever clean mine and they seem to last a pretty long time. Just lube it every ride with tri-flow or similar, check with pedros checker and ride. The eagle gx chains last a really long time for me, and I pack them tight with mud 10 months of the year.

How do you keep from nuking the exo tires? You could run DH casings and still have a really light bike, trust me they are worth the weight. Light tires are nonsense on anything but an xc bike, or I guess if your trails are perfectly smooth exo is fine, but the performance advantages of heavier casings are immense.

Thanks guys, I decided to trade in for a 650B bike front and rear. If nothing else than to just see if it is more fun and jump worthy than the 29er. Always love trying new stuff if it don't cost too much to change!

Just go w/ 650b at both ends unless you respond if hearing someone yell 'Hoss!' or can dunk a basketball on your tip toes. This 'Mullet' bike idea will get binnacled after a season - they look ridiculous.
