I love that observation about the "visualization hands." You're totally right, they mimic foot position, not hand position. And for sure, looking at the Buzzworks headset, it's obvious he still cares about reach. Either way, what I heard is that he's more concerned about weight balance between the axles and less concerned with front to back handlebar position. And who knows? He might just be lengthening reach as a way to lengthen his front center. For instance, he said he raised the fork in the crowns to slacken the head angle and extend the front center length, so maybe it's...

Whole thing is quite insightful, but everything from 8:45 to 9:15 is a real eye opener. A lot of fuss made about reach, but Laurie’s not bothered. Just keep the wheels in the same place…

Maybe it’s cuz I have struggled for years with bike fit, but I love these videos so much more than the garbage filler clickbait....plus getting the robots to chime in is sublime!

just to clarify, steel city media (who runs union) hired walker, not santa cruz (if that's what you meant by SC)

I picked up the S and have had good experiences so far. Replaced the reverb with a 180 OneUp post and will eventually replace the grip2 damper. Current damper is pretty underwhelming. Lots of bottom outs when set anywhere near recommended settings and compression cranked to nearly locked out. Other than that i did nothing to the bike except set sag and its been great. It was incredibly predictable and comfortable from day 1. The first thing i noticed was how quickly the back end got out of the way of big square impacts. I ride my local trails alot...

Optimal travel is less about pedaling and more about pumping. Both of these bikes will pedal great (heck, my Megatower pedals great), but as soon as you need to put body inputs into the bike, you're going to feel the increased suspension travel robbing your efforts. Imagine riding a pumptrack on a full suspension vs. a hardtail. The extra travel makes it harder to pump up to speed on flatter terrain.

My time aboard the Patrol was somewhat limited but I would put these two rigs in different categories. The Patrol has more travel, more burly suspension, and is generally targeted for heavier terrain. It all goes back to what you like to ride and what you're looking for in a rig. The Patrol has a more descent-oriented quality to it versus the all-around nature of the Bronson. When the going gets gnarly and the pucker factor is high, that is where the Patrol will shine.

"Currently the "bike with soul" seems to be YT" ...ah yes, the company with an ex Amazon VP as CEO backed by private equity all the while cutting out bike shops. Yes, indeed, that company just screams "SOULLLLLLL" Lol. This is a fake account right>?

" SC is not anywhere near as large as the anchor brands...." ...might want to do some homework on that one. You've really dug yourself a nice hole on this one. I'm not even sure what you are saying outside of just being mad a company (or a group of companies) grew? On one hand you are talking about the obscure brotique (no typo) brands as though they somehow hold the keys to bike bro cultural holiness while you yourself ride an "anchor brand" (yet another made up term) because they can somehow warranty parts better? I came back to...

SC has a lifetime warranty... SC isn't cheap but neither is Spec or Trek that you mention - top of the line bikes are $11K.... SC is a premium brand just like Spec, Trek... Mercedes, BMW, etc. SC has been a premium brand for the past 15 years, at least. The assumption that if the capital behind a company changes it leads to worse things is such an asinine take... People wouldn't buy companies if that process didn't work out the majority of the time and their are plenty of examples of companies with aging/less interested leadership falling by the...

Huh? I don't follow the road side but every Santa Cruz I've thrown a leg over the last 3-4 years has been pretty damn good. Some of the best I've ever ridden. This is an interesting move, and a reflection of a different era in the sport, but we'd all be smart to sit back and wait; see what the real consequences (or likely, lack thereof) are around this kind of roll up.
