2/14/2024 1:36pm They also don't sell Intense bikes at Dick's neither. They sell the 951 series bikes at Cosco if that's what you were referring too. But this is a bit concerning. We've all seen how these big chain stores assemble their bikes that they sell. I'm not saying that they can't or won't step up their game when dealing with higher...

Roy Added a comment about press release Chris King Releases DropSet 6, the Latest GripLock Headset in Their Lineup
2/13/2024 10:15pm
Yup! I remember the Chris King post on their site talking bad about IS headsets too. And now Chris King acts like they reinvented the IS headset. To be honest, I'm sure their products work well and are great. But I won't buy their products for one reason. When they made those fancy Buzz Works reach offset headsets for the Santa Cruz Team's V10s. I thought they were amazing! A new way to add cockpit space to any DH bike. Well.... come to find out, Chris King only offers those Buzz Works offsets for their top pro racers. To me...

Roy Added a reply to 29r or MX??
2/8/2024 1:00pm Yes, I tried a friends MX wheeled V10 at highland on bone saw, maiden voyage and eastern hemlock trails. It was great. No complaints. I can't say that it's faster than my 29er DH bike cause his bike wasn't set up for me or my riding style. And I don't want to risk destroying his bike either. But it was...

I am a zealot so take it for what it is, but I'm 5'10" w/ a short inseam. The reach on my medium has gotten somehow cramped at 450mm, but I'm on a full 27.5" Kona Process 153. I've had a Specialized Demo 29 and then ran it in mullet & felt like I'd unlocked the cheat code for my DH happiness after 20+ yrs. On the opposite end, for trail, something about a 29" front wheel and the odd ride height, leverage it takes to get it to turn and be playful on the trails & the shorter travel...

2/8/2024 9:09am I live in the Northeast New England area too. I'm also 5'8", long torso with 30" inseam and I have 2 bikes and there both 29ers. One is a trail bike that is a medium size (reach 442), and the other is my DH race rig which is a size large (reach 456). I can't speak to much on the...

I'm an non-pro rider, I broke my ankle very badly about 15 years ago (talus fracture, there was even a chance that I would lose my foot completely) and have still 5 pretty large screws in there. The recommendation was to leave the screws if they don't bother me and they don't. I also have a limited range of motion which sucks when I ski, but that's because there is protrusion that came to be some time after the injury that mechanically blocks the motion. But since it's my rear foot, it doesn't bother me when I ride. However, it's...

2/1/2024 4:53pm I left mine in. The only time there's any discomfort is when it's really cold outside or after a lot muscular training. Like using a row machine. But it's a very mild discomfort that subdues quickly. Now, 6 broken ribs on the other hand......... 😖

You do you. I am happy to ride a regular bike and rides with over 1000m vert on a regular basis and I’m in my mid 40’s. I have ridden with guys in their 80’s that are still sending drops and logging decent miles on a regular bike. Age has nothing to do with it.

As many have pointed out in this discussion already, a top rider can have good results on any bike. But I would say that all other things being equal, the bike is actually what can push you over the hump towards that podium finish or even the win. Or put another way: to score a top ten finish at a World Cup, you have to be one of THE best racers in the world, and that's all on you (skill, training, mental game, etc). But within this (very) elite group of riders, can the bike make the difference between a...

Peaty did that video riding a current V10 and a 2007 V10 and was 6 seconds slower at Pleney on a 3ish minute track? Obviously hes not elite top 30 fit anymore, but it gives an indication that its less than what you'd think.

1/19/2024 12:43pm I love these type of topics. Okay, this is just my opinion, so please don't attack me and burn down my home like they do on Pinkbike forums. My opinion is that its 50% rider skill and 50% bike. And my reasoning for this is as follows. Remember when Sam Hill was on the Iron Horse Sunday. He was almost...

With all the team news and rider swaps at their peak, there's plenty of discussion about bike X being better than bike Y or now rider X is going to be slower because of an equipment switch. So why not throw an unanswerable question into the air before racing gets here - is it the bike or the rider that wins the race? Could one bike be the best bike for all riders? Some bike/rider combos seem to get along while some bike/rider combos don't seem to get along. If a rider was committed to riding a bike they may...
