Weren’t the substances totally legal the previous year? Everyone in the field could have been taking it in 15 & 16 and wouldn’t matter. Likewise I bet there’s a lot of people taking what’s legal now but next year would be classed as a cheat. He’s no Lance Armstrong and the stuff he was taking wouldn’t turn him into the Hulk. Yes it was on the banned list but I don’t think doping can be classed as black and white.

Everyone geeks about race suspension, race engines, race bikes, race tune, race everything, and then expect the racers to be stock? Cmon. Respect to RR cause he's still a phenomenal rider.

Couldn’t agree more with this, people think that a 95kg male squatting 150kg and deadlifting 200kg is a sign of systemic steroid use as a child. Those are power to weight ratios similar to that of the pro woman’s field. Zero sign of any “real” drugs being used so zero need for any “big” consequences

But it's so much more convenient to take the bottle in your left hand, so that you can still shift and also use rear brake (unless you're from UK).

I approach e-bikes like heroine: I'm not going to try either because I'm probably going to enjoy them and I certainly don't need them. When I'm 68, broken, and have an extra $5K lying around I may reconsider.

There's a middle ground here. You can LOVE e-bikes all day long and still acknowledge they're not the type of machine that vital readers came here to get informed about and stoked on.

shifting was never purely rider powered, prior to wireless / electronic shifting it was mechanically powered, which is also "additive energy" as you put it. The rider just pushed a button. The rider is still just pushing a button with wireless / electronic shifting, so not much has changed in terms of rider input. I wouldn't consider this a form of E-bike because you're not really getting any more assist than you were before. What it does come down to is less set up for the bike builder or mechanic, thus another way the bike industry is putting your LBS...
