little bit of everything. I have a young son so I ride it around the neighborhood with him. It goes to the pump tracks we have here in town, both dirt and asphalt. The intent was to set it up with a varied skill set

I suppose the idea is cool, but I have to rant at least a little bit. First, why a dirt jumper frame? Why not a trail hardtail with geometry better suited for commuting? Why the shifting? A single speed could be so much more simple, and oh yeah, that AXS dropper looks very odd. Why the rigid fork? Would a suspension fork not be better for commuting, or at least look less out of place? Love the bar/stem, and tan wall tires. Very interesting build, good initial concept. I apologize for the rant.

The seatpost makes sense if you think about it. Raise it up for a better saddle height while cruising around down, lower it for jumping. I ran a dropper on a Jackal many years ago and it was nice to be able to raise the saddle for cruising. Same idea with the gears, shift when you need to for a better cadence with the saddle raised.

Harry - its been a few years but I was visiting this page to send the link to someone else and realize I never answered you.  The DJ frame was picked for a few reasons.  First, I've never owned one.  I grew up racing BMX and a DJ always seemed like the perfect blend of both BMX and MTB.  Second, at the time I had been taking my son to the pump track to work on his bike skills and wanted to be able to show him some things as well as have fun. Third, purpose.  I never intended to truly commute on the bike.  Whenever I ride it, its in a more aggressive nature.  Why shifting?  Because I used to ride around the neighborhood with my son and it make life eaiser.  Same with the dropper.  Also?  Because I never never seen a bike built quite like this before and I wanted to see how it would work.  The result was better than I anticipated.  The bike is VERY well rounded.  Why the rigid fork?  Because, again, I grew up racing BMX and always had fully rigid bikes for everything from cruising the neighborhood to riding trails.  Nothing about the intended purpose for this bike required suspension.  Our roads, neighborhood trails, and pump track are all very smooth.  That and I wanted the simplicity and clean, matching aesthetics of a tube fork painted the same color as the frame.  More of my BMX past coming through in my present day tastes.  The bike has actually gone through some changes the past few years.  Same frame, fork, wheels, tires, dropper, and brakes.  The saddle is now a Nukeproof Horizon enduro.  The cranks are now black powder coated cane creek eewings with a 38T sprocket from Alugear and Enduro Max Hit stainless 30mm BB.  Pedals are now Diety T-mac.  The drivetrain setup has been completely swapped out.  I went from the SRAM XX1 11-speed in these photos to the black/red SRAM X01 7-speed DH setup.  All in all the bike now has a much cleaner aesthetic and performs even better than the build shown here.

I get exactly what this bike is for and I've thought a lot about doing something similar. A straight-up dirt jumper is not great to cruise around town on unless you like pedaling while sitting on the rear tyre. Only thing I'd do different is a 100mm fork, but that's just me. Sick build!
