This is probably the highest rated suspension design. Natural anti-bob that also improves suspension sensitivity and bump absorption. You don't need platform shocks or weird linkage rate curves that all negatively affect performance in one way to gain in another. This just works without compromise. Also, I'd disagree and say this bike looks great.

i remember when i was hoping to buy a trek 8000. didn't have enough money at the time, but looking at it now makes me nostalgic for high-posting steep singletrack on my aluminum 26" hardtail... good times. after three years with a dropper post, i sometimes wonder what would happen if i tried to go back.

i don't have anti-29 bias. i love the enduro 29. had a blast on it at whistler two summers ago. could barely tell i was on a big wheel and enjoyed how the braking bumps didn't feel quite as gross on the bigger wheels. anti fat bike bias? i just hope i can get on the stache without a step stool haha

Review by AJ Barlas and Brandon Turman // Photos by Lear Miller At the tail end of 2013, Specialized began to make the shift from 26-inch wheels to 650B, also commonly referred to as 27.5. The move, which began within their Stumpjumper FSR series and is now migrating into the rest of their lineup, was one that the 'Big S' held off on for quite a while. Since making its way into the Enduro range, team riders like Curtis Keene have posted some of their best results in the World Enduro Series aboard the updated bike, leaving many wondering just...

Reviewed by Steve Wentz and Brandon Turman // Photos by Lear Miller Pivot's Mach 6 Carbon has existed for a few years now, a veritable eternity in the world of changing designs and all-new products. It does, however, build off the success of the already refined Mach 5.7 and Firebird, blending the best qualities of each into one do-it-all machine. It certainly looks like it checks all the boxes, so lets mull over the details and hit the trail to see if the Mach 6 is indeed worthy of the name. We spent some time getting acquainted with it during...

Reviewed by AJ Barlas and Dylan Stucki // Photos by Lear Miller When the original VPP-equipped Intense Cycles Spider debuted in 2003 it was a bred for the cross country racer with speed and weight as top priority. Over the next decade it morphed into a marathon style trail bike with a penchant for pounding out the miles, and eventually a 29-inch option was born. Today the Temecula, California based brand is proud to release their latest in the long line of handcrafted Spider frames. Changing standards and trends are a non-issue if you follow the formula I outlined; you are current with every standard because you have a new bike every year. I'm not saying upgrade your components every year, I am saying upgrade your entire bike every year.

"The Scourge of the Industry"? Really? So you must be on a 26" bike with a straight steerer, V-brakes, and 8spd cassette?

It's a three part process to have a fleet of highend bikes without any debt. First, step up slowly; Rome wasn't built in a day. Start with a budget trail bike, ride it, save at the same time just like you did for the first bike, sell, buy nicer. Then do the same next season with that nicer bike you just bought. Second, understand the depreciation curve and seasonal buying trends. Bike tech/trends evolves fast, really fast, which means the depreciation curve is steep. You only have about a year to get half to two thirds the original value back...

The majority of the bikes I'm seeing on the trails in the SF Bay Area are 5k at a minimum. Many are closer to 8-10k builds on carbon frames. Ibis Mojo, Ripleys, Santa Cruz, and Specialized seem to rule the trails in the area. Wide variety of owners. Everyone from military (me), construction workers, to tech industry types enjoying their shred machines. Granted my bike is considered middle end at 4k with an aluminum frame.

I know for me and so many others, we've just bought a new bike every year or two and put a new 1k into them. I don't have money for 8k bikes but a 5k bike is alright(plus it helps when you buy from the same shop for the past almost decade and they hook it up a bit)
