Just got an early access email from RMU about their new bike the Nighttrain - 170/170 full 29 DW Orion dual chain. Pricing is good at $2500 frame/shock.

While I’ll never own one, I have to give credit to specialized for creating this. It’s giving me nostalgia vibes from the late 90’s/early 00’s when there was a lot of weird and wacky experimentation in DH. The fact that after 3+ years of development, this is an actual production frame (regardless of cost) is pretty cool.

It makes little sense to have an oval chainring to sliiightly alter pedal kickback behaviour at the expense of everything else. Plus a 2t ovalness would hardly change the kickback situation. What I'm expecting here is that the internal chain drive also has a gear ratio applied to it. That way you can have a smaller output ring physically but have the final drive of a larger one. In numbers, a 24t ring k the cranks and a 20t on the output side gives a 1,2 gear ratio which means a 30t chainring on the output would behave the same...

If only someone made a linkage that allowed a longer shock to to be run on the Levo and it yielded 170 mm of travel. That would be wild.

Hey all, I can finally take off my very sneaky blue tape camouflage to reveal that yes, I’m reviewing the new Nomad. Because I’ve spent so many years on the old Megatower, I’m framing this as a Megatower vs. Nomad comparison. Especially interesting for me because of the rumors that the Megatower is going away and the new Nomad does not take 29” rear wheels. I only have a couple rides in on the new bike, but so far the geometry feels really good and the bike feels solid and stout. Weirdly I haven’t been able to figure out the...

Because it wasn't updated at all. This looks like it's getting an update though. @noideamtber you mean proven to grenade and lock itself preventing the spring to return the cage and tension the chain?

Static and dynamic climbing rope also comes to mind. Hanging on the two ropes, loads are the same, as a freebody diagram would suggest. A 40' whiper on a dynamic rope is survivable, maybe even fun. 40' whiper on a static rope is a potentially life ending event, both for you and the rope. Something to be said for slowing down the acceleration over a bit of time.

I've got to say, Horst link bikes that have the shock mounted to the seat stay just feel a bit dead to me, mounting it to the rocker or link just feels a lot more lively. No idea why

In static cases that is true, in dynamic cases the stiffness influences the peak force that is transmitted.
