krisrayner Added a reply to Bike Magazine Shut Down?

That sucks. I really liked their Bible reviews and interesting opinion pieces. Since Turman is leaving, maybe Vital can swoop in and get some good talent
As much as I like comparisons such as this one, there just always too many variables to eliminate and narrow down the true differences in runs. It always comes back to the human element. Seems like Dave did a great job. I’d take it for what it’s worth and not get hung up on how scientific it is or isn’t. What works best for each rider is what matters. Just like the wheel size debate.

krisrayner Added a reply to All (North) American Bike

I’ve thought about this too. Drivetrain and brakes are the sticking point. Paul does have mechanical disc brakes. SRAM and Hayes are US based, but don’t think they make any brakes here. If singlespeed you could do white industries all the way. Velocity makes rims in the US.

Been splitting my time between my Commencal E bike and my Pivot firebird 29 for the past 2 years and really with an open mind see no downside. The fitness level for both is the same I feel as you push hard on the E bike( yes you can moto uphill,) more effort the faster you go.. on our Thursday night rides will average 8 more miles per ride ( more fitness) than on my pedal bike.. I enjoy them both, and as a trail builder see no more wear and tear than a pedal bike inflicts. The mentality about...

krisrayner Added a reply to Best and Worst World Cup DH Tracks?

4/6/2020 12:11pm
The worst track is the one with inconsistent conditions that makes less about the racer and more about sheer chance (Lourdes 2017). And how is it that RedBull so regularly misses covering the crux sections of the courses? Rider X gains 3 secs on the lead but we have no footage to see where or how.

krisrayner Added a reply to Best front AND rear tire

Only tires I’ve run the same F&R have been WTB Breakout (bummed they’re no longer made), Hans Dampf (loves them, just didn’t last though it was the early version), Conti Trail King (no good for my conditions, loose and rocky)
We're in an age where the average trail bike is WAY more capable than they were 10 years ago, but we're found riding more and more trails that are less demanding. I love a good flowy trail, but they encourage riding faster and faster to make them harder. Beyond how it might affect skills growth, it seems like that could encourage more user group conflicts. A good techy, natural trail just can't be ridden as fast by as many people as a flow trail.

krisrayner Added a comment about product review MegNeg Upgrade Kit

The Jeffsy has a very progressive leverage rate. They work really well with a coil. Higher up it said you might not be very happy with MegNeg on a progressive bike.

I find other things wrong with the NBC/UCI deal. I too don’t want a subscription, just they me pay for 1 event if I want to. Let my dollars speak for what I like in the programming line up. Finding out they just did a race recap and. It the live broadcast makes more glad I bypassed they system with a vpn. I’d be really pissed to $54 for one event with a crappy recap.

krisrayner Added a comment about press release X-Fusion Shox Announces H3C Rear Shock and Coil Spring System

5/4/2019 8:47am
I'd have to do some digging again. I researched it a while back due to wanting to run a coil on whatever trail bike I got. Perhaps what I read was misleading review info, but it sure sounded like it came Ibis. Combined with the leverage chart from - http://linkagedesign.blogspot.com/2018/04/ibis-ripmo-29-2019.html I decided it wasn't progressive enough for a coil shock to work properly under me.

Why troll with a pic of an eBike that obviously isn't a Class 1 pedal assist? The hate is deep enough without conjuring up images of guys twisting throttle and roosting out favorite trails. For the sake of clarity and perspective, I own and ride an eBike AND a Jeffsy 29. That aside, I really don't get the eMTB racing...
It's an enormous waste of time and a great way to get tired before your race. There are races where walking the tracks could mean 12 miles of hiking before your race, after getting off a plane from the other side of the planet. We have bikes. We can ride the tracks.

Follow a nautical theme, names from famous ships(real or not) Black Pearl, Bounty, Jolly Roger, Victory, Endeavour, Dreadnought. But maybe stay away from stuff like Titanic, Lusitania.
I love Danny but this was way better ;-)
