krisrayner Added a reply to Newb interested in trying MTB again.

Any places nearby with lift service? Doing a park day is so much fun. Your still progress dramatically and it’s kind of an equalizer if your riding with others much fitter than you. Getting that much vertical in a day will up your motivation for the trails and help you feel more comfortable on the descents.
I’ve been following Joey since his DH days and love the adventure vibe. Get out there and make your own adventure, whatever scale it is. Also a great reminder about the NOLS wilderness courses. Wilderness first aid should get more press given how much MTB’ers are away from emergency services. For what we spend on our bikes and gear, a NOLS course should be high up on the list.

Listening to these past 2 casts made sorta nostalgic and actually buy a print mtb mag today *gasp*. Definitely miss Decline, loved the larger format. Unique content will always be relevant, not the identical timed press release articles so often seen now.

krisrayner Added a reply to Transition Smuggler vs. YT Jeffsy

I just picked up a Jeffsy frame for myself. I’m wanting to run a coil shock and the jeffsy has some of the most progressive suspenion rates that’ll cooperate with a coil shock and my weight, 230lbs. Riding style, body weight, shock preference should have a big influence on what you choose. linkagedesign.blogspot.com has some great suspension analysis to help...

Yet somehow still missed the lower part of the track that so many lost time in. Oh well, they try to anticipate the areas of most interest but you never know till race day comes. I was wondering if the lower portion was taken for granted by too many riders and they didn’t pay enough attention to it.

The effective seat tube angle is measured along a line from the BB to the top of the seatpost where it is level with the top of the headtube. I'm 1m84, but I have disproportionately long legs, so I'm quite sensitive to this particular aspect of bike geometry. On the Capra 27, I would have wished for a 1-degree steeper seattube angle, but that is something I would say about many (or even most) bikes I've ridden this year. Here, there was enough range of adjustment in the seat rails to allow me to slide my seat forward enough to...

I'm very intrigued by the 29 Capra. My one question is about the actual seat tube angle of 67. With the seat tube being so short, I would think for taller riders, like myself, that its going to put you way out back over rear wheel. I loved my Yeti ASR7, but it had the same seat tube angle and made climbs more difficult than needed. Is the effective seat angle measured to the top of seat tube, or to the top of the seat post when level with the bars?

Trying to not come into it predisposed to particular brands and stay open minded. The typical 140-160mm. I know at my weight that finding the most coil compatible suspension design is important. I love the feel and consistency of coil shocks. My own past experiences have convinced me that not all bikes work well with coil for me. Yeti ASR...

As someone that loves to take credit for things I didn't do, I recognize it when I see it. I'm pretty sure Neko said that he didn't take credit for starting and building the existing trails. He is however taking credit for making it more accessible and improving upon the infrastructure already in place. Brad, I'm sure I can get a ticket for yourself and "Chad" to the Player Haters Ball, If you'd like. Slide into my DM's if so...

Riders have been doing this for a long time now. They get used to not wearing them, then they race at a venue that requires them. We only find out about the ones who get caught and DQ’d. Mitch Ropelato had that happen to him a few years back at Leogang.

The lower leverage curve bodes well for, ahem, larger riders like myself and being able to find a coil spring rate that works well.
