The interesting thing is that the differences are apparent at both slower and faster speeds. Where you are positioned between the wheels makes a much larger impact than a few millimeters difference in total wheelbase. The difference in F:R ratio is surprisingly important in tight switchbacks, tech climbing, etc. The longer Crafty feels more maneuverable even in the slow tight stuff. An extreme example is if you've ever owned a BMX bike with rear pegs and have rode around standing on the pegs - the front end pushes wide at any speed and you have to lean on the bars...

Started my real MTB career in late 2017, so the list are: Oct 2017-Sept 2018: 2017 Trek Remedy 8, M First real MTB, it was dual 27,5, easy going and really fun in general. The brakes was quite awful, and as the speed and skills improved, the brakes was a big minus. Sept 2018 - July 2019 2019 Trek Slash...

Long time lurker, first time poster here. For some background I’m an aerospace composites engineer and spent several years in Advanced Product Development with an emphasis on environmentally friendly materials. There’s so much to get into on this topic and if folks are interested I’d love to start a dedicated thread on materials and environmental impacts. The raw fiber production may result in a certain level of carbon sequestering, but the process is still so energy intensive I wouldn’t call it an environmental positive. As...
