FCTRY Added a reply to I read it in a magazine-oh

MBA isn't worth the paper it's printed on. I like Decline but wish he would spend a little less effort on making it flashy and a little more on content and good writing. That said, the only magazine I subscribe to is Road&Track, Peter Egan is my hero.

FCTRY Added a reply to BMX vs MTB?

I will supply two alternative explanations... 1. A great number of bmxer's are simple minded tools who have taken one too many cracks to the brain pan, and as a group have a very high level of self hatred and grumpiness, which they would like to share with the world. 2. Mountain bikes in skateparks suck, buy a 20.
DH has to be the only sport in the world where top level competitors will forgo an advantage at the highest level of competition because they think it looks gay. I don't wear a skinsuit because I don't really stand to win anything, but at a world cup race where a win or a good result equals real world dollars...
The problem with the "sponsorships" hurting the bike shops is fundamentally tied in with how much bike shops suck. Advice and customer service are great, and can definately be worth paying a little more. But most shops don't know anything about gravity riding, don't have anything in stock, and process special orders at such a speed that you would think...
This is a frequent topic of discussion here at The Fix. There are certainly arguments both for and against the benefits of grassroots sponsorship, and the bottom line is it mostly depends on whose perspective you are viewing it from. We are working on our 2010 amateur team right now, and you can see our team statement in the thread...

FCTRY Added a reply to 2010 Boxxer World Cup vs. Team

The only difference is coil vs. air, chassis and damping are identical. Many would argue that the reliability of a coil in general is better than the weight savings of an air spring. That said, people seem to be quite happy with the air spring in the new Boxxer (more so than on the old one, I would say). But...

They're pretty good. Not light, but the freehub bodies hold up and the rims are pretty average. The hubs do tend to get just a tiny bit of play in them, at which point you have to replace the bearings to eliminate it. They are pretty much the most affordable dh wheels you can get in 150. In my opinion...

FCTRY Added a reply to ACL tears?

I was wearing asterisk knee braces when I tore it (it was a big crash). I got a doc to write me a script for some custom fitted Breg knee braces, which are better known among team sports types, but I do like them pretty well. They are really light and low profile, which was nice for using them with...

Saw the info over on another site. Electronic pushbutton shifting via the box on the downtube. Also has a dedicated fixed gear hub, so no more modifying a dh hub to be fixed.

For mxnate, I doubt the doctor could have been in there to do your meniscus and not noticed a torn ACL. The primary symptom of a torn ACL is some serious instability in the knee joint, specifically front to back. I doubt you could have done it without noticing. Wrenching your knee a bit within a few weeks of surgery...

Cadaver graft for me, hope to be off the trainer and out on the road in a couple more weeks as well.
If the weather there today is anything like it is on the front range, it should be downhilling heaven. I would put my money on the Buell's FTW, but their haggared bikes will never make it through 12 hours. Have fun everyone.
