I'm not entirely uninterested, but after racing for 16 years you start to realize that it's just a bike. What's more interesting about a carpenter, his tools or his products? Gwin didn't go 3.5 sec up at the first split because his bike was 254.2 grams lighter or because of the size of his wheels, he did it because he's probably the greatest downhill racer in history. Knowing what a grizzled old bastard Woo is, I think he might understand where I'm coming from. Equipment is an important part of the sport, I just grow weary of central position it...

The assessment of me as "bitter" is pretty fair and accurate, although "defeated" might be slightly better. I have watched the sport I love, downhill, basically die over my 10 year DH career. The nationals died, the MSC died, and half the great american DH tracks have been reclaimed by their hills, to be replaced by bike park trails you could do on a DJ bike. Enduro is a sad replacement that sucks to watch and to race, contrived to sell more 6" trail bikes. I know a few high level guys who like it, and I know some high...

My brethren MTB nuts are the problem, with everything. People that would rather build bikes than ride them, people that want to talk about how they shredded the sanitized "black" trail rather than actually be challenged, people that want the XC trails to be dumbed down to their level rather than elevate their level of riding, people that pretend to enjoy horrible anti-fun enduro races because that's what's being marketed right now, and so on. These people are now the majority in MTB.

The Out of Africa slideshow is killer. Nice work. Just thought it was strange that the first thing up about the 4 race wins yesterday was their bike checks. Also The Hub yaps about nothing but parts and bikes, from there you wouldn't know there were races yesterday. My arm is broken and I need vicarious racing fulfillment, frustrated. Come on Outdoors!

This sport will continue to decline and become less and less interesting, until we stop talking about pieces of plastic and aluminum and start talking about the people who ride them. Inanimate objects will never be as interesting as people, this sport has lost its soul with incessant pandering to self-important manufacturers. Bikes don't win races, people win races.

Mavic/michelin Le System was basically the same thing back in like 05. It's a great idea, we rigged one up at the fix with 650c tubular road tires in a UST rim. Worked well but you couldn't change the tire pressure once the road tire was inflated. Super stoked this is coming out, if it works as well as Tu-bliss, I'm buying it.

Whiteley will probably just have the UCI change the rules so that anyone named Aaron will need 470,000 UCI points to race at a world cup. From what I'm told, Whiteley has been the one instrumental in pushing aspiring racers and privateers out of world cup racing with the rule changes on trade teams and UCI points payouts for national champs. As far as I'm concerned he can go eat a giant bag of em.

You know I'm right when a female racer like Dave Camp agrees with me. The "needing prize money to pull women into the sport" argument is bogus, none of the dudes got into it for the money. There's nothing wrong with chasing prize money as a pro, but there's women who are cashing in their first year of racing because there's three women racing, while good pro men who have been racing and supporting the sport just for the love of it, year after year, go home empty handed. This sounds great until you get to a race where a woman who gets last of four racers and couldn't beat an eleven year old gets paid, and a pro man who beats 50 people to get 6th gets nothing. It happens.

Also, who would you have go instead? There's a handful of riders who are good, but out of those I can think of (Keene, Memmelar, Sylvestri, Buell, etc) I would probably still be putting my money on Dunc anyday.

For 10K you would think it would at least have carbon rims. You can build a V10 with Enves, and all the same stuff for similar or less, and that's with 2000 dollars worth of rim.
