10/16/2025 4:19pm You are correct. I did this to mount a straight tube manitou circus to my tapered steer tube dj frame. Cane creek is the headset I'm using in this case, and you use one of these https://worldwidecyclery.com/products/cane-creek-110-series-alloy-52-30…

ebruner Added a reply to Honest question for e-bike buyers: What's your long term ownership strategy when you buy an e-bike?
10/15/2025 1:18pm I mean, ebike drivetrains aren't that different then actual drivetrains. Granted, It adds 2 fully expendable ~800-1k wear items to the whole vehicle. However from my experience, it is reasonable to expect your emtb drive system to last a minimum of 3x your mechanical drivetrains and a max of 5ish. That should pan out to 3-5k miles as a base...

10/15/2025 8:08am Watched it last night, good follow up video and i do agree with you. I ran a 180mm boxxer on my megatower 1 for a short period of time and it was awesome. At that time, I measured the 180mm boxxer to have pretty much the same axle to crown as the 170mm zeb and the difference in flex/bushing bind...

10/15/2025 7:58am Felt this was a fitting place to post my thoughts on running a Boxxer on a Spire. Spoiler Alert: Its the best setup I've run thus far. I genuinely don't understand why we don't see this more often, from ~160-170mm on up. Especially on e-bikes. I suppose price is part of it, but my real guess is what I'm going to call "mimesis"; we all broadly follow more than we lead. And breaking convention is hard.

10/15/2025 7:58am The part about the calipers/pistons is correct. Maven bronze has the same caliper as silver/ult/expert and based is 2x18. This would be the first I'm hearing about maven bronze being discontinued, last I checked (2 days ago) you could still order up a set of bronze brakes, but maybe that's just existing stock. Fwiw, this move would make sense, the...

10/14/2025 10:34am Thanks for the question. Long story short if the rim is unsafe to ride, it's immediately retired and the hub is re-laced to a new rim. I also have to consider the massive loss of time if I send my rider up on a rim I'm not 100% confident in. Not only do we lose a practice run, but it takes me 40-50 min for one wheel build(including taping and insert/tire mounting). I could easily be halfway through a fresh wheel build in the time it takes my rider to do one practice run so if I have any doubt...

10/13/2025 2:36pm I have, it was excellent but didn't last long at all... mostly because the HR3 is only available in maxx gripp. For now, I am using the conti krypto rear dh soft for any application where I want dhr2 braking performance and side knob bite, but more penetration through dust/loose conditions and better wear. It pains me to run different...

10/9/2025 9:37am Fwiw, my nomad 6 will eat a push 11.6 spherical bearing in like 6 weeks. Since switching to the push cartridge bearing eyelet on that same shock, it has been problem free since.

10/8/2025 12:49pm One more thing to throw out in this discussion... is that with progressive coils, the spring length vs the stroke length of your shock starts to become something to look at. Meaning that if the progressive rate spring is the constant in this thought process, that a 57.5, 60, 65mm stroke shock are going to dip into that progressiveness at...

10/8/2025 8:47am Always air down the shock for service before you remove it from the frame. That way you can use the leverage of the frame to hold the shock at the equalization dimple and empty both positive and negative chambers at once. Seems like you've got that figured out now, just leaving this here for the next person who finds this...

10/7/2025 8:41am I have a set of DHR evo's with 203 rotors, shimano metallic pads and freedom coast levers. The freedom coast levers are for sure an upgrade over the standard levers and the ergonomics and power. That being said, these brakes have way too much free stroke and it leads to more finger/hand fatigue for me then the maven bronze and...

10/6/2025 2:16pm does the vital sluething brain trust know who runs the "UCI Gary" instagram account? https://www.instagram.com/uci_gary/?hl=en The memes that get posted after race events are pure gold. I remember wyn saying that he wasn't the one running it, but the jokes are purely up his ally. It has to be someone with inside information because the jokes are too specific to...

10/2/2025 10:57am I just gotta say, as far as mtb online community contributions to the lexicon go... crab link is way better then downcountry. 9/24/2025 10:44am I am completely fired up about the HR3. I'm not a huge MM fan, but I did really like how the radial casing felt but still struggled with a vague corner entry and side knob bite feeling on the radial MM. The HR3 is an absolute traction monster for me in deep dust and loose conditions, as well as chunder/rubble/ruts...

9/22/2025 4:12pm weird business-guy thought. If YT is truly in a form of re-structuring or bankruptcy protection, they may not have much of a say as to when they announce their racing plans for 2026. Doing so would potentially end up essentially being a deprecation of an asset of the business. A lost money asset granted, but still a marketing expenditure which...
