As somebody who has American parents and who has lived and worked most his life in various English-speaking countries/companies, I might contest your use of the term "widely believed" in this context, as "niggles" is definitely a term used in many places to describe "minor issues" (and certainly not intended to be derogatory in this article, as if that actually needed to be pointed out). I don't think it was meant in any derogatory context...at all. From dictionary.com - verb (used without object), niggled, niggling. 1. to criticize, especially constantly or repeatedly, in a peevish or petty way; carp: to niggle about the fine points of interpretation; preferring to niggle rather than take steps to correct a situation. 2. to spend too much time and effort on inconsequential details: It's difficult to be meticulous and not niggle. 3. to work ineffectively; trifle: to niggle with an uninteresting task.
