this all sounds so weird to me since norco was to pause their WC team before signing greg and now they‘re throwing around money like it‘s growing on trees? did they get some funding from outside mountainbiking?

Specifically, it’s because Rocky Mountain was purchased by Procycle in 1997. Procycle was founded in Saint-Georges, QC, in 1977. In the 80s and 90s, Procycle had a full-sized factory and assembly line (manufactured and assembled over 8,000,000 bikes), until production was shipped over to Asia because of cost. They used to manufacture and assemble Peugeot bikes in North America. Procycle became Rocky Mountain in 2018, and stopped producing all other brands it owned at that time (Miele - entry-level bikes of all kinds and Evox - Commuter style e-bikes). North Vancouver was responsible for frame development, marketing and some sales/service...

I think it's an indication of the size of the country you inhabit. My sister lives in the US and thinks nothing of driving 7-8 hours and I have a Dutch friend who thinks driving somewhere over an hour away is a major mission.

To me one of the biggest details I was unaware of in the Rocky bankruptcy filing was that design & marketing are in N Vancouver but ownership and management are all the way on the other side of the country in french Saint-George Quebec. Maybe other people knew that but it’s a surprise to me. I’ve actually been to Saint-George, it’s a small town closer to Maine than even Montreal. Tractor repair, Tim Hortons, not much else. Nowhere near any riding that looks like Rocky’s marketing or “spirit”. Rolling farmland on a river, just sort of a nowhere place in...

I did wonder about that? Norco's race budget must be getting pretty bloody big by now! I also wonder with the speed of Norco's team creation under Minnaar, how much (if any) Minnaar had of an insight as to what was coming via WBD demands? And how to position Norco to be one of the very few teams to survive...

Big surprise to see Erice leave Commencal Les Orres for her first elite season. That stability and familiarity for a first elite year, on a proven bike too, is often what riders want. Norco paying big or talking big game?

Marin use a much smaller factory in Asia, it's lower production capacity and shorter production run's actually give Marin an edge as more flexible in changing the orders. The down side is this also causes Marin's occasional "We've run out.... SORRY!" and more limited availability of hot stock lines for the international distributors.

Surely Spesh would be thinking about adding a female racer, and Erice is probably the up and coming Female with the most hype - so this makes sense in theory… if not Erice then who? Its a pretty bad look at this point for the most prestige team in the comp to not be putting enough stock in female racing to think it worthy of having one on their team..

Personally I'd say most of us subscribed to this thread do. If you find his posts too long winded then fair enough, don't read them, but for me Jeff brings great insight and knowledge to the thread, he's certainly given me a better understanding of the financial side of the bike world.

Amazing programs like the Les Orres team probably won't be at the world cups. Hopefully she is going to YT with Vali. It would be great to see them compete with FMD. We need teams with more than one female rider.
