USA Junior question - Did it look like the Tomlinson kid was rolling into the gate AS the clock was counting down? Guessing he was late to the start trying to scramble for something he forgot...presumably goggles. Whatever it was, glad to see him get a run in...goggles or not!

Maybe he avoided the media? only making the semi is the bigger news. he's a multiple winner and consistent Top15 rider

Pretty massive undertaking by Phil Seton, hope some funding and another bike brand comes their way to let them continue racing beyond the first two rounds of the year.

That was sick. He skipped about 3/4's of the berms on track. A lot of sneaky lines ridden very fast.

They're bargaining for pay from people who don't pay them and have no responsibility to do so. If you aren't making enough as a professional bike rider to cover your expenses and make a living you should reevaluate your choice to be a professional bike rider. I'd love to make the money I make now riding bikes. I'll be first in line if someone is cutting checks to cover what I don't make off my ability or marketable value. That's not some hot take, it's economics.

Sorry, maybe I should have made it clearer. "Sunday league" football is amateur players, your typical enthusiast footballer who's a plumber, van driver, teacher or whatever by day. Some decent players but in no way a commercial proposition. So I'd say a fair comparison, if not more favourable to the rider. As an additional aside, as a midpack journeyman enduro racer pre-EWS, racing around my day job, I managed to sell enough sponsorship to get the cash to race in Europe, on top of the bike and gear deals I did for myself. So yeah, I know first hand it...

Wow. This thread is fun. Few thoughts I feel compelled to share. 1) I personally am not anti-union. I am however suggesting its important to know "what value you bring to the table" (individually or as a group). Any group of people can unionize, it doesn't mean there is underlying value that will result in pay increases (or pay at all). 2) Wu-Tang said it best. CREAM. This doesn't just go for the riders, but the promoters and anyone trying to get paid off of this sport. Unfortunately, the (free) "cash (flow) pie" is highly unlikely to be big enough...

I don't think anyone is arguing they shouldn't be paid, it's understanding who should be paying them. That's where the NFL metaphor comes in. You get paid by your team, not the stadium, not the town, not the people buying beers, your team. Want more money? Get sponsors, they pay you as well. If Geico sponsors you and also owns the stadium you aren't tracking down the field manager and demanding a payout or you won't play. It isn't about the amounts. People make $20k a year at a desk, people make $10 million a year at a desk. People...

Aren't the riders just barking up the wrong tree? I get the safety part of it, but it isn't on Crankworx to pay the riders is it? Ask your sponsor. They don't want to pay you more? Well, time to realize your worth, whats happening in the industry, and go do something else to finance your hobby.

I thought in Crankworx response, they said they pretty much catered to all the riders concerns except for the appearance fee.

I think social media has been a blessing and a curse for slopestyle/freeriders. In the early days of Crankworx, social media wasn't what it is today. I remember the days of getting mountain bike magazines in the mail and first seeing pictures of events, then you would have to wait until New World Disorder or some other movie to see actual video of events. Those DVD's I would order were usually the only way to see these athletes do crazy tricks. This truncated the number of times I would see these riders and tricks to a few times a year...
