Specialized 2FO Mourning Thread

Still find they are widely available at discounted prices. Why not just stock up?  

I’m a bit worried! Impact pros are gone for good I believe. Now specialized? Ouch! Won’t have any grippy DH options anymore!! This ain’t good!!

I've been on these so long its like waking out of a coma seeing that the alternatives are $200

Only have 3 pairs left and seems like there are only small sizes of the DH left

Hearing mixed things about the fox flats. And 5.10 seem more casual/fashion shoes these days.

These type of shoes are very expensive to take a punt on and if you find they're not grippy enough, you've already worn them out on the bike, you can't take them back.

Yes, if you're located in the US, this is the way. If you can't find a dealer that's within driving distance, most shops will happily ship a shoe if they have your size in stock and it's out of stock everywhere else, and Specialized dealers almost always honor the (insanely low) price on the website.

All my friends on flat pedals swear by the 2FO DH because it's as sticky as the old Impacts and it has a stiff shank too, which are two impossibly hard qualities to find in the same shoe these days since the death of the Impact (RIP). I've tried to go back to flats a few times and it seems like I've mostly lost the touch, but I bought a pair of the 2FO DH flats when they were on closeout for $40 anyway, just because it seemed crazy not to at those prices.

I might have to get a spare because these are my favorite DH shoe. I run them exclusively for bike park and they’ve paid for themselves many times over from how many broken toes they’ve saved me after kicking rocks at speed. 

I find the rubber is too sticky, souls too stiff, and weight too heavy for trail riding but it’s perfect for bike park where you want the shoe locked in and feedback damped. I use my Five10s for trail riding. 

I had worked for a couple shops that sold Specialized and we'd honor the Specialized site pricing. Bike shops in general are pretty accommodating in my experience. 

Stocking up is an option if you find your size. If not..

Quite a few models of Ride Concepts have armored toe and heel, some have d30 in the ankle as well. I didn't like how Specialized 2FO fit me, so since I like RC that actually might mean that people who like the 2FO may not find a Ride Concepts they like. I use a vice mid flat and an accomplice clip.

Since we are mourning, I will share my favorite shoes ever. My jared Graves 2FO cliplite shoes. I get sad everytime I look at them because I know they're irreplaceable at this point.

Funny timing.  I just bought a pair of 2FO cliplite in my size on PB for 55 bucks, they are brand new.  They are my 3rd pair, I actually bought my 2nd pair before while my 1st were still going strong.  My 2nd pair bit the dust a couple months ago and I’ve been searching for my size on eBay and PB weekly.  Even though I now have this 3rd pair, I’ll still be looking for more to stockpile.  As someone who has been riding clipless for over 25 years, the 2FO cliplite is the absolute best shoe I’ve ever used.  

I have 4 pairs of 2fos.  One for wet weather.  One for dry.  And two as backups.

All hail 25 dollar shoes.

Guess I’ll have to figure something else out in 5-10 years.

When the Fox flats are new, they are pretty close in terms of grip, but the rubber seems to lose its stickiness over time, which the 2FO does not. The Fox flat shoe is somewhere between the 2FO Roost and the 2FO DH in terms of stiffness and feel.

I've practically lived in my 2FO Roost shoes since they came out. The rubber is just fantastic, and the shoe is great for all kinds of riding bar the really heavy stuff where you want more protection and a locked-in feel in the shoe itself. If it's truly going the way of the dodo, I am indeed in mourning. Five Ten Freerider Pro is a great alternative for me, so hopefully I won't run out of shoes to wear, but I do love my Roosts. 😔

If anyone can find the 2FO Roost Syn in 13/47, I’ll buy you many beers. I have the canvas ones but they don’t shed water well at all. I did buy a pair of the DH version which has the synthetic material, but I find them to be way less comfortable and too stiff. 

That explains why I tried to find a pair of the 2FO flats in the closed toe box as back ups.
It "was" the only flat shoe that didn't have openings on the top of the toe box that dumped water on my toes.
Tiny creeks at all times around here.

if you regularly found this shoe for $50, I think we have the answer as to why they're not making them anymore.
