I might be in the minority on this, but I really wish UCI would do what Crankworx and the Pro Downhill Series already do: Let 17 and 18 year olds race with the "elite" (a/k/a 19 and older) riders. They can maintain a Juniors category for the young riders who want to gain experience without having to compete with veterans, but this is yet another year when there are Juniors who already can (and do, at least in other organizations) compete effectively with the older riders. The kids are already facing the same demands as the Elites do: international travel, away from home for extended periods, pre-season training camps, etc. I just don't see a compelling reason to hold them back.

Friday's racing at Crankworx Whistler 2026 delivered the week's headline Downhill finals, as the Specialized Canadian Open DH Elite field took on Whistler Mountain Bike Park's iconic 1199 track, before the Boneyard hosted the Official Whip-Off World Championships presented by POC to close out the day.
Aletha Ostgaard Takes Statement Win
Aletha Ostgaard topped the women's field by 4.315 seconds over Matilda Melton, with Eliana Hulsebosch completing the podium in third, 4.834 seconds back. The run of the day almost belonged to someone else: Gracey Hemstreet, who dropped in last on the strength of a top result in yesterday’s Seeding, got off course and into a tree just before the final stretch. She finished 11th, 30.103 seconds off the pace.

Jackson Goldstone Strikes First Gold On Home Track
The men's field kept it a thriller up until the very end as it went through several changes at the top before the final result was locked in. Henry Sherry briefly held the provisional lead before Squamish local Jakob Jewett - previously undefeated in this race - moved into first before Asa Vermette took over. Troy Brosnan, just coming off a victory on the OG CDN OPN DH earlier this week, claimed the top spot, sending Jakob Jewett off the podium entirely, setting up a nervy wait for the final runs. It was local hero Jackson Goldstone who delivered when it mattered most, going to the top of the leaderboard by 3.913 seconds for his first win of the season and his first-ever Elite win on the Whistler track he calls home. Luke Meier-Smith rounded out the podium in third, 0.655 seconds behind Brosnan.
Official Whip-Off World Championships presented by POC
The Boneyard played host to a brand-new jump built by no other than former King of Crankworx Bas Van Steenbergen, and it was a party on the hill as riders sent it for the whip title. Among a lineup of big names like Brayden Barrett-Hay, Darren Berrecloth, Tyler McCaul, LJ Parra, Jaxon Riddle, Robin Goomes and Georgia Astle, only the top riders made it into the finals. In the end, Eddie Reynolds (USA) took the men's title, while Indy Deavoll claimed (NZL) her first Whip-Off gold. Vinny Armstrong (NZL) and Levi Herriges (USA) shared the second step of the podium. Last year’s winner Janelle Soukup (USA) came third alongside Matt Begg (NZL).

TEGAN CRUZ AND KAILEY SKELTON TAKE FIRST CRANKWORX WHISTLER GOLD IN DUAL SLALOM
Riders battled tight berms, sequence jumps, and mud all day, but it couldn't stop Tegan Cruz and Kailey Skelton, who both topped the podium at the Crankworx Whistler Dual Slalom.
The course itself was the story before racing even started: built by former King of Crankworx Bas van Steenbergen and his RNDM Trail Co., it was referred to as one of the best Dual Slalom tracks by the riders. They took one run down each side of the course, with the fastest combined time across both runs taking the win - and on a day when the mud never let up, staying clean through the rhythm sections was as much the challenge as the racing itself.
Kailey Skelton Victorious as Jordy Scott Slips
Jordy Scott, the Queen of Crankworx and top seed heading into finals, was on track for gold before slipping in her final run, opening the door for Kailey Skelton to take her first Crankworx medal. Isla O'Connor rounded out the women's podium with a small final victory over Julia Lofqvist Traum by 2.756 seconds.

Tegan Cruz Claims First Whistler Gold
Local rider Tegan Cruz built enough of an advantage in the opening run of the gold medal match-up to hold off reigning King of Crankworx Ryan Gilchrist in the big final, closing out the win by 0.835 seconds. Growing up in Kidsworx, Tegan Cruz is no stranger to Crankworx racing across the globe, but this gold medal is his first Elite win at Crankworx Whistler. In the small final, Jackson Frew edged out Mitch Ropelato by a tight 0.195 seconds to complete the men's podium.

it was a bummer that the webcast didn't have the steep, tech, sometimes-doubled, rock stepdowny zone. that's one of the craziest parts of the track.
Based on just the helmet cam footage (I've never been to Whistler), I'd say they picked some of the easiest, most-boring sections of the course: Waiting for riders to come-into view at around 2 min. mark, a big jump to flat (or slightly uphill), then two rock gardens, and...finish. No drones, basically no panning. It was pretty terrible video coverage--I sure hope that Discovery doubles the cameras, and chooses better locations.

I didn’t realize how much wasn’t being broadcast until I just went back and looked at 2024, the last time RedBull did the broadcast. Unfortunately I don’t think we’ll get this from WB as CX were running riders at 4 min intervals
JOHANNA NUSSBAUMER & DAVID GODZIEK TOP RHAPSODY AS CRANKWORX WHISTLER 2026 DRAWS TO A CLOSE
New course, higher stakes, and a Boneyard packed for the last big show of the festival: David Godziek and Johanna Nussbaumer topped the podium at Rhapsody, closing out the Slopestyle Super League (SSL) Regular Season on the final day of Crankworx Whistler 2026.
Rhapsody carried extra weight Slopestyle as this was the last chance for riders to bank points before the SSL Playoff picture locked in. The women's field arrived three riders deep after challenging practice week conditions forced a reduced start list - a tougher, leaner field that still delivered a stacked podium.
Johanna Nussbaumer's Breakout Season Continues
Nineteen-year-old Johanna Nussbaumer, fresh off her first-ever Diamond win at Crankworx Rotorua earlier this season, stomped her first run with a backflip double bar spin, suicide no-hander, tuck no-hander to bar spin, and a toboggan off the whale tail earned her 91.25 points and the win. Shealen Reno, one of the sport's trailblazers, held second with a run built around a pendulum and a tuck no-hander to x-up off the surgeon's table, finishing on 84 points. Young Canadian Zoe Witwicki completed the podium in third on 75.75 points - a remarkable result for a rider who was brought in as an alternate and only unlocked the full course that same morning.

David Godziek's Narrow Margin
Reigning SSL points leader David Godziek once again showed the consistency he’s been carrying throughout the previous seasons, stomping a first run loaded with a cash roll tail whip, a triple tail whip on the cannon log, and a no-handed 1080 before closing it out with a bar-spin backflip off the Rhapsody drop - the course's final feature. It was enough for 94.50 points and the win, but only just: Dane Folpp, in his first season competing at the Diamond level, had already thrown down 92.50 points with a run that included a double backflip can-can and a backflip bar-spin to can-can, putting real pressure on the field before Godziek dropped in. Tim Bringer, last season's Slopestyle World Champion competing in just his second SSL event, rounded out the podium in third with 89.75 points.
With the SSL Regular Season now complete, David Godziek, Chance Moore, and Nicholi Rogatkin earn a bye straight to the SSL Finals at Crankworx Mont-Sainte-Anne on the men's side, joined by Shealen Reno and Johanna Nussbaumer for the women. Everyone else in the field now turns to Crankworx SilverStar, where the SSL Playoffs will decide the remaining spots at the winner-takes-all Finals in Mont-Sainte-Anne.
As the last riders rolled out of the Boneyard and the Slopestyle Super League's Regular Season officially closed, the crowd that had packed the fences all week stuck around for one more send-off - proof that even with the field trimmed and the pressure at its highest, Rhapsody delivered exactly what its name promises.
Crabapple Hits World Championships
The final chapter of Crankworx Whistler 2026 belonged to the newly added Crabapple Hits World Championships, which brought the crowds, the vibes, and the action back to the infamous Crabapple Hits section of Whistler Mountain Bike Park. Riders threw down across a two-hour jam session on the line's three jumps, with no brackets and no judges' panel - just the riders themselves deciding who takes top honors. When the dust settled, it was James Curnock, a British rider now calling the Sea-to-Sky corridor home, who claimed the win with a back-to-back combination that stopped the crowd in its tracks: barspin into tailwhip into backflip tuck no-hander. A fitting, Freestyle send-off to close out ten days of mountain biking's biggest party.

Ten days, one iconic mountain, and every discipline mountain biking has to offer - Crankworx Whistler 2026 delivered a full-spectrum celebration of the sport, giving a platform to riders across categories: Kidsworx, Amateurs, Youth at CWNEXT, adaptive mountain biking, and Elite racing. From the mud and grit of the Canadian Open Enduro through Air DH, the Canadian Open Downhill, the Bosch eMTB Challenge, Dual Slalom, and the inaugural Rhapsody – the festival closed out in style. Rhapsody carried extra weight Slopestyle as this was the last chance for riders to bank points before the SSL Playoff picture locked in. The women's field arrived three riders deep after challenging practice week conditions forced a reduced start list - a tougher, leaner field that still delivered a stacked podium.
Johanna Nussbaumer's Breakout Season Continues
Nineteen-year-old Johanna Nussbaumer, fresh off her first-ever Diamond win at Crankworx Rotorua earlier this season, stomped her first run with a backflip double bar spin, suicide no-hander, tuck no-hander to bar spin, and a toboggan off the whale tail earned her 91.25 points and the win. Shealen Reno, one of the sport's trailblazers, held second with a run built around a pendulum and a tuck no-hander to x-up off the surgeon's table, finishing on 84 points. Young Canadian Zoe Witwicki completed the podium in third on 75.75 points - a remarkable result for a rider who was brought in as an alternate and only unlocked the full course that same morning.

David Godziek's Narrow Margin
Reigning SSL points leader David Godziek once again showed the consistency he’s been carrying throughout the previous seasons, stomping a first run loaded with a cash roll tail whip, a triple tail whip on the cannon log, and a no-handed 1080 before closing it out with a bar-spin backflip off the Rhapsody drop - the course's final feature. It was enough for 94.50 points and the win, but only just: Dane Folpp, in his first season competing at the Diamond level, had already thrown down 92.50 points with a run that included a double backflip can-can and a backflip bar-spin to can-can, putting real pressure on the field before Godziek dropped in. Tim Bringer, last season's Slopestyle World Champion competing in just his second SSL event, rounded out the podium in third with 89.75 points.

With the SSL Regular Season now complete, David Godziek, Chance Moore, and Nicholi Rogatkin earn a bye straight to the SSL Finals at Crankworx Mont-Sainte-Anne on the men's side, joined by Shealen Reno and Johanna Nussbaumer for the women. Everyone else in the field now turns to Crankworx SilverStar, where the SSL Playoffs will decide the remaining spots at the winner-takes-all Finals in Mont-Sainte-Anne.
As the last riders rolled out of the Boneyard and the Slopestyle Super League's Regular Season officially closed, the crowd that had packed the fences all week stuck around for one more send-off - proof that even with the field trimmed and the pressure at its highest, Rhapsody delivered exactly what its name promises.
Crabapple Hits World Championships
The final chapter of Crankworx Whistler 2026 belonged to the newly added Crabapple Hits World Championships, which brought the crowds, the vibes, and the action back to the infamous Crabapple Hits section of Whistler Mountain Bike Park. Riders threw down across a two-hour jam session on the line's three jumps, with no brackets and no judges' panel - just the riders themselves deciding who takes top honors. When the dust settled, it was James Curnock, a British rider now calling the Sea-to-Sky corridor home, who claimed the win with a back-to-back combination that stopped the crowd in its tracks: barspin into tailwhip into backflip tuck no-hander. A fitting, Freestyle send-off to close out ten days of mountain biking's biggest party.
21 Years – Another One For The Books
Ten days, one iconic mountain, and every discipline mountain biking has to offer - Crankworx Whistler 2026 delivered a full-spectrum celebration of the sport, giving a platform to riders across categories: Kidsworx, Amateurs, Youth at CWNEXT, adaptive mountain biking, and Elite racing. From the mud and grit of the Canadian Open Enduro through Air DH, the Canadian Open Downhill, the Bosch eMTB Challenge, Dual Slalom, and the inaugural Rhapsody – the festival closed out in style. The Crankworx World Tour rolls on with Crankworx SilverStar (August 6-9) and Crankworx Mont-Sainte-Anne (September 3-7), where the Slopestyle Super League Playoffs and Finals will crown the season's champions.

Can't say I agreed with all of the slopestyle judging, but it was still fun to watch the world's best do their thing.
Hopefully future coverage gives more attention to the people and stories behind these races. The numbers and results are easy to report, but the personalities and history are what make fans care.
